July 24 to 28 1995. Worked it out from the Today Tonight promo in relation to the Mundinburra electorate result from the Queensland state election. The result for that seat was declared on July 25 and ultimately gave the Goss government a majority. The result was later overturned and a by-election was held in February 1996 and put the Goss government out of office.

This is the Aussie version as indicated both in the title of the clip and immediately upon commencement of watching said clip.

They still had the category trilon Tournament of the champions in January/February 1995, but by April it had the on-screen category display. I'm guessing it was changed after they finished pre-recording the early 1995 shows at the end of 1994, which would've been around February or March 1995

My guess is February 21 1995 - first “normal” episode that year, and probably the first 1995 show actually taped in 1995. Shorter turnaround between taping and airing back then.

@@Wheeloffortunefan999 You are correct yes. Only the winning families were considered for the final. And even then the secured dollars upon solving a puzzle determined who was champion. At the time this rule was only used in the Celebrity specials and Family Week, however was adopted for all general episodes in 1996 until the show was moved to Sydney in July. In 1996 they changed the Family Week format slightly adding a 5th heat on the Friday episode and then coming back the following Monday for the final. Solving during the Tony Barber era did not secure dollars and Tony pointed out in the final that the family with the highest score at the end of the 4th puzzle won the car. The final format consisted of your usual 3 rounds and then instead of a Major Prize Round per sé, they used the round 3 wheel template a second time round for the 4th puzzle and the show would end after that 4th puzzle.

I think the closest to that would've been the Cash Jackpot in the early 2000s. On one of the car wedges, it was placed on both outer pegs, meaning the player would win it and the car by solving the puzzle. It started at $2,000 and increased by $100 each day until someone cashed in.
