I don’t see why one would get the boost over the normal l20 for that “boost” button because simply unlocking the speed limit and throttle on the normal l20 will do the same thing and for cheaper. Plus the boost only comes in one color.. With that said, if you unlock the l20 boost it should have a bit of an edge when going uphill but honestly I think it’s a bit bs, this thing was only made to be “legal” towards EU regulations.. they market it as such, of having this boost legal on city road and locked at 25km/h. Now if you unlock the l20 with its motor that’s actually not a real 250w you get the same acceleration. It definitely needs a review and comparison of both models fully unlocked but I think I have well understood the deal, that’s it’s simply to propose something with more acceleration while still being legal. I think I’m gonna go for the l20, Ive spent 3-4 days searching for the best compact city bike and at the cheapest price, I think this is the one. I don’t care going 40km/h, 30km/h on the city road is all one needs, going faster than that becomes very dangerous with all the traffic and unpredictability

To be honest, If you look at the l20, Engine X, Ep2 pro, Engine pro specs, They all state 50nm of torque (ish) The Engine pro 2 states 75nm. Also they all state 10 degree hill climb. But the boost says 17.8 degrees (with boost). So I do think they replaced the motor to probably the Engine pro 2.0 new motor and then programmed it to limit it. I'd guess top end speed wont change (unlocked), Just a bit faster acceleration and more pulling power up hills. Then there is the torque sensor, so the motor should activate sooner and easier. I've never had the L20 and not anywhere near a big enough channel to get sent bikes to test lol. But I have the Engine X. That is basically the same motor and sensor as the original L20. So when I review my L20 boost, I will compare it to my Engine X :)

I'd say whether you pay the extra for the Boost model depends almost entirely on your preference for torque sensing over cadence sensing. The boost button itself looks a bit gimmicky to me; you can always drop down a couple of gears and pedal harder! I'm sure both versions of the L20 are equally good in actual use. The Boost has only the one colour option, but it's a very nice colour! 😊
@noob-ebike-guy
@noob-ebike-guy Ай бұрын
The boost button sounds very useful to me. Adds 25nm of torque. So can do steeper hills. Should accelerate faster with more nm too. Have to admit the one colour option wasn't great but luckily I like the green lol. Once it comes I'll do a full review and test it. I don't have an L20 but it should function like the Engine X as same power. So will compare the L20 boost to my Engine X :)

While not exactly the same I have had similar problems with my E-Bike it's been off the road so to speak for about 6 months now due to an issue with the rear wheel with the easiest and most affordable option being replacing it with a new one. Being a somewhat older bike the motor is actually in the front wheel which isn't very common these days. Although the company I bought the bike from are UK based they not longer operate phones lines and can take months to reply to emails. Just when I was giving up hope and thought I would need to buy a new bike they finally replied telling me they could sell me a new wheel but since they don't operate a phone line I would need to email them my phone number so they could ring me and have me pay over the phone. I sent them the info and now a week later they still haven't replied so I'm sort of back to square one with no idea when or if they will get back to me. I had the same problem getting hold of them before and the annoying irony is I decided to buy a bike from a UK based company thinking if the bike developed any issues it would be easier to get it sorted than if I had one deliver from outside the country but that has not turned out to be the case. I was very tempted to get the either the Engwe L20 or E26 as a replacement due to there very reasonable prices at the moment but I was put off by how incredibly heavy they are. My current bike despite being very budget (it was £595 if you can believe it now discontinued) but it only weighs about 16kg vs about 36kg for the L20 and 33.5kg (step-thru) for the E26 according to the info on Engwe's website. After all your troubles I really hope your happy with your current bike and that you don't encounter any problems with it down the line. No need to reply to my comment if you don't want to as I know it's on the long side.

Good video , I had very similar issue , my charger also had a fault and wouldn't charge , same issue I was told they was away at dragon boat festival and it would take a week or so , very annoying I was fortunate to find a equal charger on Amazon for 24 quid so at least I could charge the bike and use it, they eventually sent a replacement charger which I prefer to use but at least I got a backup charger too,, I love the bike and it's so easy yo change the speed restrictor and motorbike mode for off public roads and change the power max from 5 up to 9 😂

What do you mean the power max upto 9? Do you mean the pedal assist modes? I think 5 is plenty (even with restriction removed). or is yours a different bike? for speed mine is restricted to 26kmph but the menu lets it to upto 60kmph. But bikes top speed seems around 44kmph/27mph :)

You can actually swap the push assist (3.6mph) to the throttle rather than holding down the minus button. I did this by accident whilst trying to have it so that it's max power on throttle regardless of what pas I was using. I have an engine x and I've done so many mods to it it's probably worth double now. I wouldn't worry about the police as long as you're not riding like an idiot they've got more pressing issues like arresting right wingers lol😂
@noob-ebike-guy
@noob-ebike-guy 23 күн бұрын
@simonjohnhinton1938 not sure if it was possible on the x20 that lcd is on alot of bikes but apparently it's how the controller is pre programed that dictates the settings that work and don't. I did find a video a while back with that settings and turned it on. I thought it would work like the one on the Eskuta (instant for setting off). But the delay is to long to be useful settings off and I think (not 100% sure) that it interfered with pedal assist while holding the throttle. I didn't like having it on and swapped it back after my 1st journey 🙂

I can't really say yes or no to this tbh. I mean a lot of delivery places seem to use those mopped looking ones (the Eskuta sx250). I've not had or used one but they only have 20 mile range (according to reviewers). Maybe a 2nd battery? Or think the Eskuta ones charge the bike between deliveries. Spare batteries can be bought, I'd guess the 16ah batteries would do about 37 miles.

I've had my engine x since October last year. I've done a lot of work on it to put right some if the things engwe should have addressed at the factory. Things like the axle bolts which on mine were too short so I replaced them with some 86mm stainless bolts. Another thing too is the fact the mid suspension has no bushings which means you have steel bolts going through an aluminium frame. Over time this wear will cause a loose back end. I've replaced the metal mudguards for plastic ones as they don't rust and break and cause the rider to crash as it gets jammed in the wheel. The mechanical brakes are adequate but I've replaced the front rotor for a 203mm one with the right adapter for the caliper. Opening and closing the frame can wear out the pins on the battery and they can get hot and melt. The tyres are quite thin and so make a fair amount of noise on the road. I have the revised model where they extended the brace that goes from the seat post to the folding hinge. On the early models it only went 3/4 length which made that part of the frame weak. There have been a number of photos of broken frames. On the revised models they also extended the weld underneath so it to goes all the way to the folding hinge. All that being said it's a good comfy bike. Now I've addressed all the issues I then added a second battery on the rack and run both batteries using a balancer kit. 13ah+10ah. I get about 55 miles. I also have the bmx bars, a 56 tooth crankset and a huge saddle. Also have a power analyser too which recorded 960w peak at about 19amps.
@noob-ebike-guy
@noob-ebike-guy 3 ай бұрын
You have definitely changed a lot. I am not sure what bushings are if I am honest. With the mudguards, I plan to bolt a bracket to each, that seems the go to solution to prevent the bracket snapping in time. I am in a group for Engwe fails and have seen 2 snapped frames. I'd say they where failed wields though and that caused the supporting bit to snap. I don't feel this was a common thing but certainly something they seem to have altered the design to attempt to stop it happening.
@simonjohnhinton1938
@simonjohnhinton1938 3 ай бұрын
@noob-ebike-guy yes the weld was extended giving extra strength. I've added a couple of builders strapping around that area to act as a safety net. definitely change to bmx bars if I were you if you haven't already looks better and handles better too. my other bike is an old Kona 27.5" mtb which I've converted using a yose power kit. the kit cost £360 and is waterproof and I think uses a sinewave controller which makes for a really smooth and responsive ride. if I'm really honest the engine x wasn't my first choice. I wanted an l20 but unfortunately they were out of stock everywhere and I didn't want to import one because of the extra charges. I paid £900 with the online discount code back in October and is a bit of a bargain. the x has grown on me and hauls my large frame along no problem. hills? what hills! loads of torque!
