Hey Ben what's your email address? I got a question for you. Thanks!

Not funny...dangerous. Have you ever heard the term "sea worthy"? Problem is when you post video of dumb stuff like this it encourages others to do the same or worse. Plus when you go down it is a pain for all those involved, Ranger, Sherriff. Rescue
@bensboats6 күн бұрын
Thanks for your concers. Though the videos are lightheaeted and fun, I do not endanger myself or my fiancee. Precautions are taken and inspections performed in advance and behind the scenes to ensure the safety of all involved.

You can’t run old gas. Need to drain tank and rebuild carb. It also is mechanical secondary. Better pull out drive and put gimbal bearing and u joints with new bellows. WOW

What fiberglass/resin did you use? And where did you get it
@bensboats14 күн бұрын
For the transom, I primarily used 1708 bi-axial mat and West Systems hardener and resin. Where strength was of a lesser concern (bilge floors, etc) chopped strand mat was used.

Came across you channel, tip never run the motor without the water attached to the unit….. you might wanna order replacement parts for the lower end propeller, etc., etc. change all the oils and before you tried to crank it you should’ve pulled the spark plugs and put oil down all the cylinders excellent way to bend that to the cylinder wall, looking forward to the videos.

We run 30wt non detergent oil in the trim pumps rather than Trans fluid. Purge the system and take the time to get the old stuff out. Good luck. They don't like sitting for 1 there are other issues that occur once the change was done it's had zero issues I picked mine up after it had sat for 15 years. That was 3 years ago and has worked flawlessly since changing to old school Dino oil. Good luck!

Dude! Get a break bar on that crank bolt! You’re only using a 3/8 rachet!
@bensboatsАй бұрын
Don't want to break that bolt! Makes for a real bad day....
@keithwendl8328Ай бұрын
@@bensboats I get that, but you can also break the starter bolts out of the bolt using the starter to crank a locked up engine
@thomasayers630Ай бұрын
I bought a boat one time had the same problem. Do you know what it turned out to be the outdrive was locked up which ties in with a couple ties in with the motor and will not allow the motor to turn over
@bensboatsАй бұрын
That can happen! Luckily this drive seems ok
@GixxerFooАй бұрын
I worked for Mercruiser in Stillwater, love seeing an engine and drive that came out of the plant! I always wonder when I see a boat in the year range I worked there if I had my hands on that motor at one point. In the cafeteria we had the engine covers from over the years on the walls being used at light shades, it was pretty cool.

Might check the exhaust manifolds as well, they will sometimes crack internally and allow water into the exhaust and cylinders. Just a thought.

Who cracked it ? I bought a 2004 boat where PO had cracked the 4.3 , only 37 hrs on engine ruined it.

Ben, great video. Question for you on fiberglassing the hole in transom. Why did you not overlap the fiberglass onto the hull, instead just did circle patches? I would think the patches would be stronger with overlap, although certainly less pretty.
@bryant29192 ай бұрын
Yes, REALLY need to overlap fiberglass repairs.
@pirateatfourty2 ай бұрын
problem with all bayliners is they used green wood when they were built. the stringers are probably dryrotted. seen more than one over the years spin the engine over and go thru the bottom of the hull. sink pretty fast , the green wood drys out and there is a separation of the fiberglass they put over the engine mounts. wish you luck with it

Caleld quadra junks for a reason... REgardless, there is a tension screw in the underside of the shaft for the secondary, how you slow down the opening of the second butterflies. They get wear and loosen up, and create the quadrajunk bog....

Pull the pump out of the hold and dump out all of the old fluid. When it sits the fluid can turn to thick snot like clumps and the pump can't move thru the system. Hopefully it didn't get in the rams or you have to pull them apart.

That's a good tip. I'll try this out, thanks!

Great Video ! I just bought a 1982 Bayliner 2270 Explorer because it was all I could afford and I liked the way it looks . You got a great boat ! The last year of the Orin Edson Bayliners . The history of Bayliner is very interesting with it's beginnings in hydroplanes . They knew how to make a great hull and had all the fiberglass delivered right to the factories by railroad cars so they had all they wanted . When Orin Edson sold the company in 1986 Bayliner was the worlds largest recreational boat manufactuer . Can't wait to see you open that up on the water . Looks like a very fast skater . The Bayliner Capri was the first boat sold as a boat , motor & trailer package . It was also the National Marine Manufactuers Association BOAT OF THE YEAR the year it came out as a complete package . Just like the Bass Pro Bass Tracker , boat motor trailer package . Have you noticed how they say CLASSIC right on the sides of those ? yeah, I like my Bayliner ! Great Video I'll watch more .

That sound is more than likely the pds bearings. You have to pull the motor to replace them. One comes out the back and one out the front. I always replace with sealed bearings.
