@DILLIGAF-e4rКүн бұрын
@@momagic8912 That is a very good question! It was mainly lack of wind and my lack of low wind water start technique that hampered the water start. Although a 6" thick inflatable board may look a handful to water start, it is no harder than a rigid board if the wind is enough. I normally inflate to ~17-18psi, but today the electric pump battery was low (I forgot to recharge it...🤦♂️), so I only pumped up to ~15psi with the hand pump. Didn't feel much different to normal, but reckon it would have flexed a bit if there had been any chop. You'll see mate on his IQ foil in Raw Pt2. This has got me home a couple time when I been out with big sails (8 & 9.5m) and the wind has picked up. If the wind does pick up and if there is a safe lee-shore for the walk of shame back, I tend to stick with the big sail rather that downsize and just turn the session into "survival practice", so hopefully I can get back come the day it hits for real with no escape route. Thanks for capturing and uploading the experience. I assume every windsurfer has had such sessions, I for sure had, and especially in those temperatures it is not fun at all to be massively overpowered. Some advice from my side would be to shorten your uphaul so its always flush with the mast, if its not elastic, get a new one with a rubber loop. Also, don't be ashamed to rig smaller when you realize you're out of control, it will be 20min well spent eventually. If you are on your smallest sail and still overpowered, pull more downhaul and move the mastfoot 2-3cm to the front. Last thing would be that in those conditions you need to get planing and into both footstraps asap to gain control and have fun. If you are not comfortable with that on the Futura yet you might want to consider getting a more freeridy and floaty board which also has more inward options for the footstraps.

Hi! having seen your struggle (we have all been there at some point in time), here comes some advice that you can try and I believe it would help you to enjoy your windsurfing more, a. when you waterstart use the underarm grip on the front hand, also when sailing while planning, b. when wind is very low and you are not planning do not use the harness line, c. when in the straps and planning you need to extend you front arm (underarm grip) and let the sail fill with air with front hand more back towards the harness line (normally just in front of the front attachment) while putting your body weight backwards extending front leg and bending the back, d. the uphaul is too long you need a stretchy one that is a bit tight when not stretched on the mast., e. harness line adjustment is better/easier to adjust sailing when at the back. ...just in case you did not know all this 😉🤙

@@DILLIGAF-e4r I'm not a fan of the underhand grip myself (but I know that many do use it), not least as hopefully eventually you will get good enough to have just your fingertips resting on the boom to guide the sail when fully locked in! The key thing for your beach/water starts is to extend the front arm. By doing so you are effectively increasing the angle of attack of the sail and so generating more lift (like sheeting in, but with the front arm instead), and automatically moving the mast nearer to where you want it to eventually be (i.e. upright). It also looks like you could position slightly more off the wind (nose toward downwind just a little) for that first beach start, but hard to tell from just a video of course. Fair play for getting out there in the cold though!

You might want to let go of the sail a bit sooner during jibes. The second or two you are riding clue first is killing your speed and makes things less stable afterwards . I know that because I was there not long ago. So many things to think about while jibing, right? Gain speed broad reaching, unhook, pull back feet off strap, move back hand back, rail the board, pull back hand to depower, keep rig upright in front of you, switch stance, let go of back hand, slide front hand close to boom clip, cross free hand to grab other boom side, lower center of gravity, extend front leg, hook-in, sheet-in, front foot in strap, back foot in strap and off you go blast again! All this in less than 5 seconds! You got this! 😊

@@whynowind I'm with you on that mate! I was a bit more aggresive on the gybes before Xmas, but a two week break and I'm having to relearn it all again and being decidedly pedestrian in it all🤦♂️. I like your guide (you could publish that!)... although I tend to use the "fail at least 100 times before expecting to get it right..... any sooner was a fluke" philosophy.... 🇺🇸🤙🇬🇧

@@DILLIGAF-e4r I failed at jibing way more than a 100 times! No shame with that. Some get it fast, and I wasn't one of them! It took me 3 years of trials and errors to get the move relatively fluid and successful fairly frequently. Fixing one thing at a time helped me a lot, rather than trying to think of everything at once. For example, I sometimes forget to let my hand slid next to the boom clip during sail flip. Small things but consequential nonetheless: the rig won't stay straight but will tilt back as you try to reach the other side, and the extra weight unnecessarily loads the back of the board with immediate effect with lose of speed and momentum. If I have built confidence and repetition with the other steps ahead of that one, I would focus on making my hand slide automatic! Anyhow, jibing is less of a mind game and more of the memorization of a choreography IMO! But mastering it brings the fun in windsurfing 10 folds! Keep at it man, you're close!

@@whynowind Great words and advice again! I guess I'm still in that happy zone of actually getting round the jibe.... finessing it and not losing as much speed with be this year's project. Having said that, I can only plane into the jibe from stbd to port... the other way, port to stbd, still feels alien and near impossible....🤦♂️.

@@whynowind I meant to ask earlier.... how do you cope with only 7 months beach life a year...? 5 months off the water would drive me up the wall!!
@whynowind7 күн бұрын
@@DILLIGAF-e4r Same here! Initially, I only worked on Stbd to port. The weird part is that when I finally managed port to Stbd, I started to suck again at Stbd to port. I think I took it for granted and wasn't as focused and regressed a bit on that side. The move is perfectible and after a while, you know when you executed smoothly or not - even when you stay dry. I also tend to jibe well when I'm fresh and when I'm executing the move more "aggressively". It usually ends up very sloppy when I'm tired or when I'm not putting my 100% into it. I'll have to do a vid on that - I have plenty of footage on the topic! Cheers!

Crazy. In Durban I use a 69 wave board in 22 kts with a 5.2m sail and our water is 25deg celcuis in summer and 22 in winter. 🫣
