I remember being warned that you don't step out of these cars. You either fall out ungraciously, or barrel roll out like James Bond.

Absolute dream car for me, just found this channel as I've been actively searching for quality 944 contact for a long time now (think I've just found it👍)as there very little on the 944 on KZbin IMO, you can keep your 911s the 944 is where it's at for me, when you hear stories of Porsche supposedly deliberately turning the wick down on it's performance as to not over shadow the 911 at the time says a lot, I'll definitely be watching with interest, keep up the good work.

Interesting to hear your perspective, I drove my '86 944 as a gas car for a few months before converting it to electric, absolutely everything gets better if you keep the weight distribution in the ballpark but shift slightly rear. Mine roughly swapped from 53.5% front as a gas car to 54% rear as an EV and the traction was unbelievable and necessary with all the extra power. Excited to watch this conversion over time. Most interested in what you do to update the car, mirrors cosmetics etc.

Love the project! I converted an '86 944 in 2010, loved it, broke it, fixed it in 2012, drove it as my daily driver for years. Currently working on updating it with a Tesla LDU in the rear and SDU in the front if I can actually make an AWD system work in a 944. Your production quality is awesome for a new channel, keep up the great work! Can't wait to see what you do with appearance updates inside and out!

In the UK you cannot modify the monocoque chassis and retain your V5. Anything welded to the car cannot be modified from original only restored to original condition. Have you sorted where you getting your motor + controller from? Who is doing the scanning of your car for you, I would be interested in having a play with the data.
@iamjoshuadavies3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I'll be doing the scanning myself, but would be happy to share the data. Not worked out where to get the motor + controller + batteries from yet, I don't want to break the bank more than I have to.

i'd urge caution about putting batteries in the boot/spare wheel area. that area basically becomes a crumple zone so if a battery box is in there a minor prang could lead to lead to a lot of damage. If you can keep the batteries in a single box it'll make life a lot easier for you when it comes to wiring and BMS etc, for 150ish miles a 50kwh pack should be more than enough i'd have though. i've said it previously but defo but some effort into making that steering wheel adjustable! otherwise you could find the driving position horrendous.

Hey. You are already talking about changing the look of the headlights and bumper. Have you thought about getting rid of the door handles/installing button press door poppers? Or handles from Tesla3? Something that would be sleek and low profile. It would go well with pop down headlights.

I would love prettier door handles, the Taycan has nice ones as well, maybe we can make it happen!

Just found your channel, great project giving me more motivation to do my own ev conversion. I had a 944 back when they were cheap. One thing I hated about it was steering wheel position, it doesn’t adjust and was always too far away. If you’re changing interior and adding electric steering anyway try and add that adjustment!

@@iamjoshuadavies turns out you can find cheap used scales that measure up to 400 pounds from thrift stores. a little older, but not made of glass. my car is a few pounds shy of 1600 pounds based on corner weight measurements from stuff that cost me ~20 bucks total!
