Affordable my ass cost more than traditional tabs plus 90 vs 20 degree is a helluva lot more drag

Very affordable compared to similar systems. Do not compare to normal trim tabs. They don't work as a 90 degree brake, the forces it generates basically "bends" the water around it. The system, calibrated properly, works really great! It won't help IMHO if the goal is to reduce planing speed, but helps with stability.

I wouldn't use the word "affordable" so loosely. It might be "affordable" if you own a yacht.
