Remember walking into record stores and picking up a free Top 40 chart? Most were bands. Bands are almost non-existant now. The reason largely being cost of promotion and logistics of recording as opposed to single artists who can now cheaply and singlehandedly produce a full, high quality sound ( not necessarily tune) using AI in their own home. The 80s music scene was extraordinary. It will never be repeated or matched. So many talented musicians and so many original numbers. Countdown couldn't and wouldn't be made today. The platforms and tastes are far too varied now for it to mean anything to a mass audience.
