Greetings 屋代美香, I'm Cham Nguyen, from VietNam. It's so great that I could watch from the screen the beautiful landscape of Guam. Thank you for your stunning video. May I ask for your permission to use the footage, properly only few seconds (3-4 secs) for my documentary project related to Guam? This project is not for commercial and only served for documentary purpose. Really looking forward to hear from you! Thank you so much.

I was in Guam for our 1988 deploument with NMCB 40. We arrived at night and did not get to see much untill we got settled in a day or two. Today, I miss Guam in lots of ways. Many good memories. Now that I live in the CONUS deep south, I still can walk out in the mornings or evenings some times and feel guam all over again.

I lived on Guam from 1956, I was 7, to 1959. My Dad was stationed at NAS Agana, what is now Won Pat International. We lived across the street and a field from the MATS terminal. On our very first morning in Guam, my Dad took us to Tumon Beach. My oldest Granddaughter was in Guam last Thanksgiving, visiting her TDY’d husband, and took a photo of my two great-grandsons in the water at Tumon. In my picture, it’s just boonies behind the beach; in the kid’s picture there are HOTELS. I will return to Guam.

This brings back fond memories. In late January 1964 I left Travis AFB in northern California via a turbo prop aircraft and landed at Guam International Airport at the end of my flight. My ship's homeport was Apra Harbor on the north west corner of the island. The opening scene of this video shows Apra Harbor.
@barrybebop38663 жыл бұрын
Rich....ditto for me. I left Travis Dec 30, 1961 via turbo prop as well. We first landed at Hawaii for a refueling layover, then went to Wake Island for another fueling stop, then finally to Guam. From when I left Philadelphia until I arrived in Guam it was about a day & a half. I don't remember exactly how long it was from leaving Travis until arriving at Guam, but I'm pretty sure it was close to 24 hours which included the refueling stops (which were really rather short). When I returned to the states in June 1963 I was able to get a "hop" on a KC-135 Air Refueler and we went non stop from Guam to Mountain Home AFB in Boise Idaho in 11 hrs 40 minutes. I would really love to revisit Guam today but the lengthy flight is probably more than I would want to endure. Thanks for sharing. P.S...I REMEMBER APRA HARBOR WELL. I can't get over how the little villages back then were so antiquated yet beautiful. We would get a softball game together once in a while with some of the native guys and we would bring some beer and they would bring some "Tuba Juice"....terrible stuff!!! Much worse than Carolina moonshine

Wow. So far. If u landed there on boat, means u travelled through South China Sea, the Philippines & Sulu Sea before ended up in Guam. But if u reached there by plane, then it wasn't too far away from Vietnam/Vietkong.

Hard to believe thats Guam, I was there 1969, when there was almost nothing. Sure someone figured out how beautiful it was and started investing in the island. If I remember correctly, its like 5 miles wide by around 20 long, really small. I wouldn't mind going back one day to see it again.
@alukuhito4 жыл бұрын
It's very Americanized, with just little snippets of the original culture. You could easily be fooled that you're in Florida or somewhere else in the continental USA. Big, wide roads, with American cars and trucks, all the typical American chains - Pizza Hut, Burger King, McDonald's, Chevron gas, Kmart, ... It's cool though. I think tourists make up most of the people there (except now during the pandemic). Lots of Japanese, Koreans, Russians, Chinese. That would've been cool to see it in 1969. I hope you have the chance to see Guam again.

Should of had a view from the cockpit, so you could see the 3 runways. This does not look like Guam. I was stationed there '47 -'49, and I don't remember those lagoons, also, the island is about 30mi. Long and 8.5 mi wide in the N. and 11.5 in S. This island looks bigger.
