Why are replicas like this always slightly smaller? Is it that much more difficult to go the last mile and make it full scale?

This brought tears. My father (a retired C-130 pilot) saw this plane at a airshow and was so taken by it that he order the plans for the RC model and built it by hand. It is now in the Spirit of Flight Museum in Nampa, ID.

Legend Cub life....AL-3 having fun

@rq9551 Absolutely!! Mine has a Sensenich ground adjustable set to fine pitch. It gets off short and climbs very well. Too much fun. She loves to fly low and slow

Which Pin # setting are you using
@Coops777Ай бұрын
@rq9551 Thats a good point. My A&P set it for me. Will find out for you. Airspeed is about 78 knots at 2500 rpm. Prop is the current Sensenich model. I did have an older model fitted but it perfromed poorly at fine pitch. The latest version has slightly curved tips and is more efficient - Pulls noticeably harder. I keep my plane in a flight school where I am one of the instructors. I like it set slow (climb) for safety of students. Plenty of climb if they need to go around.. Average climb is about 750 ft/min @ 52 knots with 2 people, a bit less on high DA days (around 500 ish)
@Coops777Ай бұрын
Great video thankyou. So graceful. I couldn't help but notice the performance and climb rate was above average for a J3 and that the fuselage looks a little wider. Finally I saw the logo on the tail and realised it is a modern day Legend AL3 cub, one of which I own myself and adore.

Well, first of all, an outstanding capture of a masterclass in aerobatics. Not many real pilots can hope to emulate Skip Stewart - but rc pilots all over the world can - and a video capture of this quality is a textbook to us. Somewhere on KZbin there's an interview with Skip Stewart where he says that rc flying played a big part in developing his routines - so what goes round comes round. [Subscribed - by way of thanks.]

Ho-hum. Airplane in the sky, oh look it is yellow.. Where are the take off and landing??? The best parts of any aeroplane flight. The most difficult parts of flying these machines and you missed them. So close but no bananas.
@horsemoneyАй бұрын
I agree with you, I would have loved to have gotten the takeoff and landing, but it was an airshow and we couldn't see them takeoff and land from the show line. Maybe someday, I can get there when they are flying and it's not fenced off.
@edstoro3883Ай бұрын
@@horsemoney That is a shame, the airshow people need to set aside a "press/camera" enclosure for the 'affectionadoes'. To give an example: I had a friend who flew the Tri-plane in his stocking feet to get a better feel on the rudder bar. It was that touchy. Having flown some of these older aeroplanes, the landings are a whole new facet of aviation. Good thing we invented the Spam-Cans. Cheers.
