Can anyone tell me the photo or is it a painting described as Phoenix United mine. Could it be the earlier Wheal Phoenix? I am trying to find a picture or a drawing of Wheal Phoenix as my great grandfather worked there in 1871.

Yes your grandfather would of been working at wheal Phoenix mine in 1871. As the mine did not become incorporated till 1875 and became Phoenix United mine. Mines went togeather in this time as the industry started to decline, Phoenix United ceased operating in 1898 and prince of wales shaft in 1914. Hope this answers your question!👍

I worked underground at South Crofty in the late 1960s. I see the headframe is still there, looks like Cooks Kitchen shaft? I believe there is active no tin mining left in Cornwall, correct me if I’m wrong. Brilliant drone shots.

Most of the underground images are in fact by J C Burrows and taken at Dolcoath, Cooks Kitchen, Blue Hills and East Pool mines, not Caradon.

Hard to realise when you walk over the moor from Minnions to the Cheesewring how industrialised the area was less than 150 years ago

Always makes me smile when I read the police column in the local paper, Tavistock times and gazette. this week the focus is upon a police officer who was assaulted by a man under arrest carryin a metal walking stick? WTF The rest is a "broke into my house and stole some garden tools"? A town that has a nil acceptance of crime and exercises with publication of the offenders can only be a a model for the future.

This is a brilliant overview of the history of Cornish worldwide. I live in Australia, where the Cornish Miners came to mine for copper...today, Mining is Australia's major industry. The Cornish Descendants celebrate the their heritage with festivals in every state. In South Australia, the area known as Little Cornwall, Moonta-Kadina-Wallaroo,on the Yorke Peninsula hold a 'Kernewek Lowender' every two years. Next will be May2013...visit our website soon-

An absolute fountain of knowledge and David looks like a real cool dude in his white gloves and slightly " down the nose specs ". Seriously though this is informative and excellent ( and no swear words in this comment unlike those from most You Tube contributors ). Carry on archiving !
