if the 2 minute warning existed then, Oregon would’ve had the ball back with about 30 seconds left

1:25:23 "TOUCHDOWN, USC!" 1:26:10 "...STANFORD TOUCHDOWN, STANFORD, MY GOODNESS!" LOL, WHAT?! PLAY BY PLAY ANNOUNCER, HOW COULD YOU MESS THAT CALL UP?! Maybe he was so shocked that Stanford got a touchdown to tie the game at that point. Anyway... just unbelievable how this happened. To put things in more perspective, coming into this game, Stanford was absolutely awful in their last 3 games against the Pac-10. They were outscored 141-51, and last week, they were blown out at home 41-3 by Arizona State. But that same Stanford team, on this day, Saturday, October 6, 2007, would go into the LA Coliseum, and pull off an upset over the #2 USC Trojans, who were favored by 41 POINTS... with a new head coach in (now Chargers head coach) Jim Harbaugh, and a quarterback who had only thrown 3 passes IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER in Tavita Pritchard. INSANE. As the late Vin Scully once said, "In a season of the improbable, the impossible happened."

In 40+ years following Stanford football, this was the most intense, dramatic, important, satisfying win I've ever watched. The Cardinal preserved an undefeated record with a TRIPLE OVERTIME COMEBACK WIN OVER USC...with Andrew Luck in charge...in the LA Coliseum...before a national TV audience...and Brent Musburger. It doesn't get any better than that.

Man, I miss Brett Hundley. That dude was a field general for the Bruins for three years. His sophomore year (2012) he almost led them to the Rose Bowl in his first year as a starter. He led them to Top 20 finishes in his junior and senior years.

I like classic under center I formation football. I know shotgun spread is much more effective, but its still beautiful when done well. Most teams can't field the elite OL you need for it to be done well. The Elite TE that can block D ends and LBs and can't be covered by LBs was a Stanford specialty.

I was there. Stanford was still basking in the glory of shutting down UO's unstoppable offense the year before, and after shutting them out through two quarters here, the roar at halftime (as Stanford's team ran off the field - during Heather Cox's interview with Helfrich) just lifted the roof off the place. It was the loudest I've ever heard that stadium, almost qualitatively different. It was even shaking a little. Not kidding. Haven't heard it since, but then #5 vs #3 hasn't happened since, either.

The greatest upset ever. I don't want to hear anything else. USC was undefeated with a 35 game home winning streak. Stanford was a 41 point underdog and 1-3. They had finished the last season 1-11. On top of that, their starting QB had a seizure and was unable to play so the backup QB, who hadn't started a game and only had thrown 3 passes, got the start. Absolute insanity!

This doesn't even look like an upset if you watch without context! The 07 starting roster has 8 NFL draft picks, this is a case of a new team new coaching staff new everything who finally got it together late in the season in skills and offensive and defensive scheme. Stanford's offense has been remarkably old school under center 'pro style' ; even adapting with more shotgun to the more shotgun oriented pro style of the present.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing3 жыл бұрын
Pro Style is vanishing because its so so hard to execute. Without a great Oline and a QB who can make post snap reads, it doesn't work. Unless your run game is so good you only throw Play action passes.
@WalterWhiteFootballSharing3 жыл бұрын
Wow only 96 views; this is a great friggin game! I got tricked by the angles in the first few downs that this would be a bad game for me...Because if I can't make presnap reads of the coverage; Im watching like the kid I was in 1990 and its a waste of my time in 2020's. I need to know the why , i rewind most plays.

Kevin Hogan is one of those quarterbacks who doesn’t look like a pretty runner but really gets the job done in crucial spots. But this entire Stanford team was loaded with tremendous athletes. Of course, Oregon wasn’t too bad, either. This is a matchup of #3 Oregon at #5 Stanford, by the way! Two very mild spoilers: • Tyler Gaffney set a school single-game record for rushes. • There was a major momentum shift late in the game.
