I liked school. I wanted to do university but I couldn't get the grades that I needed. I got there, as an older student, as a single parent and as a casual employee with 4 jobs but I don't feel like I had the academic support I required to get the grades I needed to get to or through university. Even the careers advisor told me to change my future job preference, rather than give me guidance as to where I can get help

Understanding needs to come from all directions, not just understanding what needs to be taught and learned but understanding the individuals, likes, dislikes, personalities, strengths, and all this stuff needs to be put on file so later teachers and instructors can have an idea of the PERSON they're dealing with

Just because they drop out of highschool doesn't mean they're not going to have successful lives. We need to look at the reasons they are leaving school - financial, bullying, jobs or other opportunities

I am a special ed. and kindergarten teacher in the reservation for 5 years and I was there for each and everyone of them. I love my kids. I am on a J1 Visa then... will gladly come back to the REZ my second home aside from the Philippines. Thank you for this very amazing TED Talks on Education. You Rock!!!

These people are well intentioned but you just don't force education on people nor entice them with hypothetical promises of success (whatever that means). The compulsory school system is what needs to be discussed, not teachers or students and their supposed failings.

Pixar should just make presto available to the public and make it like blender as a tool for people to learn about animation and make their own films.

presto likely has a nightmare interface to use since it requires programmers and software engineers to maintain. this is a custom tool made only to fill one role by that studio. for everything else blender is fine.

Hi, I noticed these captions were auto generated and it causes the captions to spell out a different word. I think it’d be nice if there was captions non auto generated to provide more accuracy for those who aren’t able to hear the actual video:)

not really. presto is proprietary and likely you need alot of software engineers to maintain it.

@@charlesthomas5956 i always find it fascinating, in any field. if you want a top working F1 car of anything, It's always going to require a huge team of very specialized people to maintain and develop it. consumer driven products need to be fleshed out and refined, but you'll find alot of this top very specialized software is incredibly crude on alot of edges because refinement is secondary to specialization and pushing the absolute cutting edge for effectiveness or introducing something you've never seen before and doing that only one thing very well.

Awesome! An inspiration to thinking about a 10-year plan in a school district where only 45% of students in Black high schools were graduating in 2012. Thanks to the Superintendent of Education who was hired in July 2013, the graduation rates at the 45% schools are over 85%. Nine years of strategic commitment. The best is yet to come. Consistent grit is key.

May I ask the 'PlogLin' in Colorspace in Read node? I have heard Slog 1/2/3 is log-curve that Sony uses, but I can't find any information of PlogLin.

Is he using Red Hat Linux????? It's good to know that GNU/Linux is usable for this kind of things. I always read that Windows or Mac are the best choices for this kind of work

Yes, he is using Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Dreamworks, pixar, all the big studios only use linux and mac for this. Hell OpenUSD etc from Pixar only supported RHEL/CentOS for long time since their animators are given HP boxes running RHEL at work

I think there is no clear release date yet for XPU, also no clarity on the license offerings and if you can Upgrade from Version 23 to XPU.

Jathavan Sriram that’s okay - it sounds like it will be released soon enough. The only thing that annoys me with Renderman is having to .tx textures. It makes look dev and exploration a more clunky process. Apart from that, I really look forward to using XPU :)
