I know this comment is a year old but i give you the answer: the "clunk" noise is from the gearbox of the car. From my observations, it's a sequential gearbox with a lever shifter. Edit: OP a few comments under confirmed, it's appearantly a Hollinger 5 speed (never heard of it). Hope i helped & have a good rest of your day!
