For such a small box, why use 3/4"? Wouldn't 1/2" be more ideal?

Is there enough space to raise the laser for taller objects?
@kiwiworkshop
@kiwiworkshop 14 күн бұрын
The laser is placed at a height to allow for taller objects up to 180mm (7"). The allows for the xTool rotary tool with an object such as an extra large cup. For items taller than this, the xTool would have to be raised on spacers and the lid left open.

Should finish the insides too, they get the least air circulation in the first place

I would have glued some cork into the bottom of the recesses so the tips aren't going straight into the wood
@kiwiworkshop
@kiwiworkshop 28 күн бұрын
The knives only go as far in as the shoulder of the handle and the knife block is sized so the tips are sitting above the wood.

@yozarahirvi4750 26 күн бұрын
@@kiwiworkshop I think the best would have been to fill each recesse with cork so the hole match the blade shape, there's no inertia when you put the knife back (if you let it "drop" into the recess, inertia wants it to go further than what the handle allow, seeing how the knife is made it's probably no problem, it looks sturdy enough, but enough impact and movement might damage the handles on the long run, loose handles are never fun to use) of course, if they fit nice and tight in each recesse, you should make sure to dry them properly before putting them back in, it's stainless steel but you shouldn't let them in water and humidity for a long period of time anyway.

It turns out beautifully, but I don't know how since you traced a *flat end of the dovetail, not one pre cut to 45°. Shouldn't it be out a bit now in the dovetail profile?
@kiwiworkshop
@kiwiworkshop Ай бұрын
Well spotted. Somewhere back in the comments there is an explanation. Basically the angle of error was so small it didn't matter. The joint would have pushed apart slightly when the spline was inserted.
@___PK__
@___PK__ Ай бұрын
@kiwiworkshop Well its easy to sit here and criticize, but you pulled it off. If the tracer dovetail was cut at the right angle it would become exactly correct.

I Build a bedframe with this, although I left a bit of room,in the joint so I can disassamble and reassamble the frame. This way it is easily portable also for a 2mx2m bed and larger.

I just started wood working for fun and found out i cannot saw strait. I really need something like this but none for sale so I might have to try and make one. What are the drill bits called?
@kiwiworkshop
@kiwiworkshop Ай бұрын
Hey, it's good to learn how to saw straight by hand and a jig like this can help to develop the muscle memory. Keep in mind this jig is designed to work with Japanese style pull saws and all of the teeth must be straight. If not, they will start catching on the jig. The drill bits are forstner bits.

Excellent work on the castle joint, the only thing I wasn't impressed was the saw blade, very rough. The more teeth count the better & cleaner your cuts will be, won't even have to chisel the seats like you had to.
