Im doing a 51. My drivers door stands proud in front. Do I bend hinges out?

Seems like cutting that groove would weaken the hinge considerably. Dont know if thats the best thing to do???
@jans53chevrolettruckbuild292 ай бұрын
You do have to weld it back up. If you have a press you can use it to bend the hinge without cutting the groove.
@gregmulloy48962 ай бұрын
Could you just use shims
@jans53chevrolettruckbuild292 ай бұрын
Can’t really shim it because the hinge sits in a pocket in the door. Unfortunately you have to take the door on and off to recheck. If you have a press you don’t need to cut the groove to bend. Saves you having to weld the groove back up.

Do you have a source for the hinge sheet metal trim ( looks like you welded yours back on). Mine are toast.

I made my own, but they can be purchased from the filling station for $11.95 each.

What brand of just brakes did you have for your 8.8 rear end that's what I've been looking for for mine I believe it's a 97 Ford explorer if you can help me out on that I'd preciate it love your truck❤
@jans53chevrolettruckbuild29 Жыл бұрын
The 8.8 I have is disc brakes. 1995 to 2003 explorer has rear disc. Look at the tag attached to differential cover for gearing. The Letter L in the id tag indicates limited slip so a 373 limited slip will read 3L73 a 410 will read 4L10. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Nice project. I bought a 58 gmc earlier this month. It came with an s10 frame with bags for suspension a 350 egine with a mild cam a 700r4 transmission with a 2800 stall torque converter and the usual rust spots I have to cut out and reweld. I like the work you are doing to yours thanks for sharing.

Looks good just curious as to why you didn't just use a 700r4,,, the over drive looks like the drive shaft is sitting on angle and should have separate mount for overdrive
@jans53chevrolettruckbuild292 жыл бұрын
I know it looks long but you do not mount the over drive to a cross member. The answer to why not use a 700r4, it is not a strong transmission it takes a lot more money to beef up than my th350. The over drive is rated to 2000 hp . Take a look at the gear vendor page for the info you seek.
@georgespangler15172 жыл бұрын
@@jans53chevrolettruckbuild29 makes sense, l use 700r4s but I'm not running over 400 hp either, my 84 vette has a 4 speed manual transmission with a 2 speed overdrive automatic behind it , first time I ever heard of them is when I bought it,, my Chevelle has 400 turbo and all my fords have c6s.. they are bulletproof

@jans53chevrolettruckbuild292 жыл бұрын
I bought the GM surpentine front runner kit but you can find all the front bracket at the junk yard. The 82-94 s10 4.3s use the same brackets or the 350 capriice will both convert you to a surpentine one belt set up, but when using this set up you HAVE TO CHANGE TO A REVERSE RUNNING WATER PUMP.

@jans53chevrolettruckbuild292 жыл бұрын
S10 long bed is 118 inches fits 53 Chevy short bed 117 inches ,the wheel base on a stock 53 Chevy always looks too short from the factory so the extra length in the long bed s10 helps fit the 53 body better than it was stock.

My inner tire barley touched the bed sides. I tubbed mine but you could either run 1 inch spacers or buy wheels with a offset to fit.
