Lots of good information in a very short clip. I feel anticipating future development of a young tree is one of those thing an older guy can have a better handle on owing to decades of observation. That said your/our role as a mentor to the young tree workers has so many important facets and you are excellent covering all of them.

I think you should have told him, you would cut down his tree for the same price you were charging his neighbors. Then start cutting. Your clients can legally only cut down the tree over their property line. You shouldn’t even be over his property line at all, you were trespassing.

If you are eventually going to take the whole limb why not take it now while the wound is small compared to being a little bigger?
@GameofTrees2 күн бұрын
Actually, reducing the branch slows down the diameter growth of that branch, but the diameter of the main stem continues to increase when the branch is eventually removed the ratio of the branch diameter to trunk diameter will improve. That is the logic.

Kevin when you make those cuts is it better to cut them on an angle or straight across I've heard different options but I trust your judgment God bless
@GameofTrees2 күн бұрын
Case by case analysis, a good rule of thumb is you make the cut opposite the branch bridge if there is one or at the angle of the branch collar if there is one. Some reduction cuts may be a little flatter just because there may be a couple of laterals near the cut, but that’s usually on temporary branches that are ultimately be removed in the future

Do these things you say about who’s responsible go state by state? I’ve seen here in Arkansas, that doesn’t seem to jive with what you’ve said here. Branches from another property hanging over your house, who’s responsible? I’m all confused now, from what I thought I knew and what’s true.
@GameofTrees4 күн бұрын
It varies widely from city to city. Most laws are purposely vague. Best practice, prune what’s over your property without harming the tree. Preferably with consent of the owner.
