Your buddy did a great job of staying with you and not allowing you to flip him also. Stay calm and ride it on your back feet first is what they say but it's never quite that simple.

Damn. You don’t know how rough this was unless you’ve been through something similar. Glad your friend was there to lend a safety boat and didn’t give up. That could have been tragic

OMG, that was a horrible swim !! I've had a few bad ones, but nothing like this.. I won't mess with that section of Clear Creek.
@joeanderson2529 Жыл бұрын
at the beginning when you first tipped, was the current so strong it kept sucking you back into the waterfall?
@JohnEHopper22 күн бұрын
dude, I just really sucked. In my defense, it was 11 years ago now, but still. I had no business on that section at that time as it was my rookie season and anyway, I lived. I still love paddling, and I learned some important lessons through this.

Any boater that has not been through it already, owes it to themselves and their fellow paddlers/rowers to attend a Swiftwater Rescue Technician course. It may very well save your life or someone else's life some day. If you can afford the gear to float, you can afford the training to stay alive while doing it. Rescuers hate nothing more than to have to make a death notice to families. Think about it.

Look around. Understand that the very people and civilization you are here to rescue from themselves are also, temporarily at least, and through no real fault of their own, our sworn enemies.

9 years ago, hope your skills are greatly improved now. That was brutal to watch. I knew it was going to be ugly from the beginning. When you rocked the bank twice. Before you even got started. Live and learn. Keep on paddling.

I'm on a spree watching white kayak rescues and ya'll are mental. Haha. I have minimal raft experience but spend quite bit of time on my Surfski in open water. Im always amazed just how powerful water is. You don't realize it until you've been in a spot where you have no control, and that doesn't much, haha. Feeling hopeless, being swept away by water is a humbling experience.

Very easy to get out from in multiple points but just wildly inexperienced. That's really the only reason there was any trouble to begin with. You can see it before the fall he just has no idea what to do.

As a clear creek guide let me just ask why the hell did you not swim for shore? My number one advice to you and anyone else that boats clear creek in any craft. If you swim you get the f*** out of the water as fast as possible.
