I was hoping to see the lost footage of my '62 Chevy Bel Air up against a '64 mustang. "Power shift here we go........"

I wasn't going to bother watching, I figured it was one more tired trip to nostalgialand. I figured wrong. It may have taken a minute but I dug the combo of '60s and late model muscle. Plus, thank you for no Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and Big Bopper.

A friend sent me this. I raced there in the early 70's. 55 Chev. Also went to Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah's last concert on New Year's Eve in Downers Grove. Both good memories.

I loved this place in my high school days and it could never happen again today. We would spend our Sundays in the pit and come home dirty, absolutely deaf and sunburned. No sunscreen, no hearing protection....no nothing. Virtually all the action was from local people and their home-brewed engineering. I was glad to be there. Also, a lot of the competitors were guys just fresh from Vietnam who were "hell bent for leather" as it is said.

Loved the staging lanes on the rock road back then, 5 wide or was it just 4?...., and DEEP. It was rough on oil downs.

Found this video by accident. I burned my share of rubber at Oswego in the 1970s...even went off the shutdown area and into the cornfield on one occasion when I didn't pull the 'chute soon enough. Ah, the good old days when drag racing was fun and didn't require a six-figure budget!

Somehow the music/video personifies every late '60s track & "feel" -----lots of fun, close connection to the old factory musclecars. Great video! Thanks!

Mark, this version is by Robert Earl Keen, album "Bigger Piece of the Sky." I got it from iTunes. If you like Rockabilly also check out Big Long Buick by Jimmy Thackery, album Live in Detroit, also iTunes. Hope this helps.

Glad you liked the video James. Have you gone to the Oswego Facebook page? Or the US 30 Facebook page. Some of the members would be familiar with your father and his car I am certain.

Wow. My dad was according to the trophy raceway champion in 1971. not sure if it meant for the yr or not. Have 6 of his trophies and only one says champion on it with the #71 on it. [email protected] love to chat and see if u or anyone else has video of his mustang or a 68 coupe with HIGH HOPES in shoe polish on the side.

Well, I've got to say thanks for posting this. It's always kool to see something on Oswego. And Jerry Wagner's "Barbarian"! The most bitchin' of Chevy II's....but "LSD"? You couldn't have picked "Rev Up" by Manuel & the Renegades or "Car Hop" by the Exports?
