hi, I am currently a second-year fashion contour (lingerie design) student at LCF, studied business before and feel a bit lost with translating my ideas, and displaying my research (in a non photo past way) I am thinking about doing a fashion folio year before I go to my final year, bcs don't feel ready yet. Do you think this is a good idea?
@OliviaSuguri16 күн бұрын
hi Layla, I think you should try to connect with other fashion students and also talk with your tutors about that. It sounds like you already have a good educational background and it pains me to think that you'd have to invest yet more time and money on something your course should already be teaching you.

Hey Olivia! Thanks so much for sharing your Dixie Cup Sailor Hat pattern with us. I was wondering if you had some advice for order of assembly? Here's what I'm thinking: 1) Sew hat pieces together, 3 at a time. Then join halves together to make the top of the hat. 2) Sew bias pieces along the unfinished seams of the inner hat. 3) Add interfacing to outer brim. Fold over so good sides are facing together, and sew along short diagonal edge. 4) Fold over inner brim, and sew short edge together. 5) Join outer and inner brim together, good sides facing in. Sew along outer edge. I am not sure how to join the inside bias finish brim to the top of the hat and the brim. Do I want the bias to be unseen and positioned so that it's tucked between the brim and the top of the hat when the brim is folded up? Thanks so much!
@OliviaSuguriАй бұрын
sounds about right! the bias finish for the brim can be replaced by a ribbon, so you don't have to fold the edges. you can check a baseball cap for reference on how to finish

hello!! thank you so much for this helpful video. I wondered what material the slopers are made of, as shown in 01:28? I have used tagboard paper for my slopers, but these look much handier. thank you in advance for an answer
@OliviaSuguriАй бұрын
Hey Marcin! I think it's called a PP sheet, it's not quite acrylic and you can find in most art supplies shops. just make sure you don't buy it from hardware stores, as you might get something really tough and thick and much harder to cut with a craft knife

I feel alot of these portugese luxury blank manufacturers price their wholesale pretty high, as a professional would you say that it just is the cost of making these clothing and the price is fair for the small brand starting up?
@OliviaSuguri8 ай бұрын
Great question! Yep, these pieces are not cheap, but nothing is when your minimum order quantity is not in the hundreds, unfortunately. For most manufacturers or mills, if you're not doing 300pcs or 300m, they won't even talk to you. Also, it's important to think: they're expensive compared to what? Many garment printing companies can make a 30-piece order of Gildan t-shirts with a simple 1-colour screenprint + your printed label for less than $15 each, and I've actually seen small luxury brands sell these for like $200 - so it's really up to you to understand if your brand can do that. Maybe your brand is already on the rise, and streetwear is a quick and easy choice for an existing audience that's eager to buy anything with your label on.

Thanks for the comment, and great question! I was burnt out and making very little money, which is not a sustainable combination and I wasn't in any way gonna make a comeback any time soon. I'm enjoying some stability now, and if I ever decide to start a business again, I'll definitely go about it in a whole different way :)

@@OliviaSuguri thank you very much! Really praying and wishing for the best for you. You seem like an amazing person :) Content idea (if you plan on still doing content) "Learnings from x amounts of years of running my clothing brand", or something like this, maybe "What i wish i would have known before starting my brand" . I think it's very common to hear the big success stories, but for me personally, im much more interested in "learning" stories (as I believe the only "failure" is not trying or not doing) than the ""success"" ones

[UPDATE] I no longer have a neutral stance re. ASBX after a flood of bots posting stellar reviews of alleged flawless service. This is HIGHLY SUSPICIOUS for a company positioning itself as high-end and premium! I did not prompt any of the negative reviews here, and this only reinforces my point about thoroughly researching your manufacturers and not coming into the industry unprepared - apparel manufacturing is infamous for widespread unethical practices.
@aguilianofortes6585 Жыл бұрын
ASBX is one big mess. Do not do business with them. I paid over more than € 3.000 for 200 custom made t-shirts that does not meet the techpack we have have sent a hundred times. They do nothing with your feedback, they blame you for the mistakes and the guy we have had contact with, Afonso Bento, is the worst communicator. We have now 191 t-shirts (9 are still missing) just laying here because we cannot sell them. They offered a compensation with which we can pay a part of the cost we have to make to fix the t-shirts. We only agree to this only if we get our money back from the 9 missing t-shirts. Strange enough they refuse to do that.

Use someone else. They only take ages because they're not a manufacturer, they're an agency. If you go direct to a manufacturer you will get a speedier service and better price.

STAY AWAY FROM ASBX I've been in contact with them for almost a year now and have never seen anything like it I've been telling the owner afonso since the beginning that I wanted to talk to someone else because he didn't seem friendly and very unprofessional. I met him in an office in portugal. he told me i could only talk to him so i decided to work with asbx anyway it was also better until I had paid half. I sent asbx a very well explained techpach for a tshirt. I got no messages to know how we are progressing. I always had to send messages to which I didn't get an answer or he replied that the t-shirt would be sent soon and so on although the t-shirt wasn't even ready... When I got my t-shirt after a long time, it was anything but what was described in the techpack. The t-shirt was never personally edited. Print was wrong size and wrong color! If you as a clothing company can't even get the size and color of the print right, that's saying a lot! So I send photos and they could see for themselves that it's not right. Months go by and every day I lose a lot of time because I am constantly writing and waiting for an answer. The owner Afonso when he replies tells me that the Tshirts are ready and will be shipped. One day it was over and i said i wanted to stop working with them Then he told me it couldn't be done. My shirts were never made so he said we could stop and I'd have to pay for the work. I wanted all my money but they charged me over 1000 euros for a t-shirt that wasn't even personalized and everything was wrong. it took a month and a half for them to send me my money. I've never seen anything like this! twice they had problems with the transfer. I had to ask again they wouldn't tell me themselves. Afonso once answered me before the collaboration when I wanted information for the collaboration. Since I paid he has never answered me, just hung up and then texted that he was at dinner, in the car, or at a meeting. When he didn't feel like it anymore, he didn't want to take responsibility anymore and said I should communicate with Joao via email. joao who needs days to write a very simple email in which he writes: please send me your bank information and can't even spell my name correctly for the transfer. Afonso who likes to be the owner of a clothing company but then has no balls to bear responsibility and blames others. Threatened me and blackmailed me because I already left a comment under this video at the time. I don't think that's the right way to treat customers and hopefully with this message they won't treat you or anyone else the way they treated me! D'ALESSANDRO
