I know how to create 3d models, but I don't know how to draw in raster or vector programs. Can a laser machine accept a .stl file with the correct dimensions (e.g. 0.25 mm engraving depth)? Or do I need a vector or raster file?

So it does look good but if you look at the 34 second mark you can see that you need to do some clean up on the edges. Overall the coin looks great and the design is awesome but there are some needs for either additional fiber runs or some post process work on the coin itself.

Our software is designed from the ground up to work specifically with LaserStar machines, so it is not compatible with other laser systems.

Hey there, A 163 lens was used on that piece. I just spoke to the technician who lased it, and he said the distance was approximately 195mm -- please bear in mind it was done over a year ago and he couldn't remember the exact distance.

How much does it change the weight ? I would imagine quite minimal but serious question.

Depends how much you take off! If you're deep engraving, you're going to lose more weight than a surface mark. When dealing with firearms, a good rule of thumb is to not take off more than 30% of the original weight, so you're not risking the piece's structural integrity. But at the end of the day, it's up to the operator how much / little they want to lase.
