i think maybe a long shot he realy prepared to lose to sasuke he know that sasuke cant realy beat him anytime soon, so he brings his sickness and chakra lvl to a point that sasuke can actually at least compete with him. as far as we know itachi would have won in his fight against sasuke if he realy wanna win. but he cant let it seem like he actually try to lose cause it was not his intention that sasuke found out what realy happend.
