I appreciate this review. This story has some basis in George Takei’s experience as an internee and yes - there were dances and baseball games and gardening. They tried to make life livable.

Who is here 6 years later? I love Patty and Emily so much and revisit their videos regulary to hear their oppinions on shows. They were the best and no KZbinr matches their reviews. I hope they're both fine!

I found this version pretty terrible compared to the original pop opera. The changes were universally bad: 1) The actor playing Peter couldn't hit his high notes in the musical version, which ruined his songs. 2) The new lyrics were generally worse than the original lyrics. Why change them in the old songs anyway? What's the point? 3) The new songs are a mixed bag-even the good ones like Million Miles and Best Friend seem out of place with the original songs, like they come from a different musical, and they ruin the flow. 3) Changing Peter and Jason's relationship to brand new (they'd been together for a while in the pop opera) makes the drama between them seem forced. Why doesn't Jason just leave Peter? They've only been dating/hooking up a week. 4) Sister Joan feels kinda preachy compared to Chantelle, and God Don't Make No Trash is SUCH a better song. 5) They talk way too much in the musical, and it's generally boring dialogue. 6) And why make the Shakespeare sections spoken? Those were so pretty as songs. 7) I agree that they really didn't establish Jason and Nadia's bond, which was so sweet in the pop opera. 8) It's terrible to get rid of the arc with Peter coming out to his mom. That's really important in a play about teen LGBTQ+ characters. Glad you liked it though! I'm sure it was some people's favorite version. I just personally found it inferior in every way.

There are plenty of young principals and Sierra may have been 33 at the time (I'm pretty sure) but that doesn't mean she could have been portraying a older woman.

I realize that my comment is 6 years later and the show is long closed, but I am hoping that they see this. I listened to this whole 9:42 because I wanted to see what they said about my good friend Jim Borstelmann. They started off saying that they would address the performances first and then all they said about the performances was that they were "fantastic" and "not a dud in there." They said a little about one of Jenn Colella's numbers. They finally addressed a few others after 8 minutes. What's the point of listing the cast if you're not going to tell us about their individual performances? This isn't a book report, yet this is mostly focused on how well this was/wasn't written. A review about a play should include specific strengths and weaknesses of the main characters and any outstanding supporting roles.

Old video now, but must chime in on the show’s arbitrary projections. My friend and I still laugh to this day regarding the random projection during some love ballad that featured a woman looking over her shoulder with a sheet that slowly dropped down her bare back! One of the biggest WTF set design moments I’ve ever had!

this is what I get for commenting before finishing the video but I'd like to explain song of purple summer to you. no, it's not a continuation of the story, the characters aren't carried into this song. it's an epilogue and a final message. The plot stops and it's that final message is that hope of a new way. It's them saying that, "you know, maybe things aren't so great now but someday it will be and we can carry that to the next generation." also, the purple summer flower is a flower that only blooms in summer their thought was that you have to get through winter, you have to get through the crest of spring to get to Summer, you have to experience the bad to get to the good. sorry, I know I exploded but I had to say this.

Only two minutes in and I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT! My mom didn't mind it because "the point was that he had to get through her initial doubt." There is a respectful way to show that: THIS IS NOT IT!
