"tan-bu-la "is actually introduced to Taiwan by Japanese during colonial period. I am sure you have heard of tempure at a Japanese restaurant, and it is what it is (and that's why they pronounce a like.) The one you had was Taiwanese twist to it and being localized after years this food first introduced to Taiwan.

@@BingoandBinew I think you will like it if you are into veggie. It is a healthier option at a night market as well. Usually it has shredded carrots, bean sprouts, cabbage, peanut powder...etc. Sometimes each store has its own unique twist to Run Bing, It is one of my favorite if I can find a stall that sells it at a market. The jeepneys you see are not the same army jeeps that were used back in world war 2. The ones that were left over from world war 2 were the ones that were converted for public transport. Over time, those were replaced by new units with upgraded design. The body is manufactured locally and the engine are usually from Japanese cars. The jeep you saw in the narrow alley is called an ‘owner-type’ jeep which is shorter and is meant for private owners and not public transport. The longer ones are used for public transport an work like buses as they have specific routes to follow.
