Trying to get the picking right for that fast part is killing me! Any tips?

I wouldn't force the indicated picking directions if it's uncomfortable or feels unnatural. However, I think this is a good approach, and if you want to do it this way, practicing sweep picking will help a lot. Practicing arpeggios on more than 3 strings for example. The key is that you dont stop the pick in the air after you picked the E string upwards, but push it to the B string. It feels weird doing this slowly, but it will become a single sweep at higher speeds.

He ignores highest string and the rest are tuned as Bb Eb Ab Db F Bb. After tuned your guitar so, you'll see that the tab is corresponding to what he's playing.

Opeth songs are so difficult to learn by ear and get it right note for note. You did it perfectly, amazing cover. To make things even better, I was able learn the entire song, thanks to you!
