Unfortunately today very few of the cars in the video are still there and the ones that are are slowly rotting away and are in a very bad condition

Thanks Lord M. What a lovely video that takes me right back to the first Doctor Who story I ever saw in 1974!

I have a question. Does the head move at 0:15? I went to Beaulieu yesterday and I saw it move but I wasn’t too sure

Was Michael C. Sedgwick related the historical Sedgwick family, with many artist, authors, entrepeneurs, but also famously fragile, such as the Andy Warhol Superstar Edie Sedgwick? Is that the same family? He appears to fit the bill?...

That was one of the funniest videos I've seen in a very long time. Did you know that an early 60's one these sold at auction for £111,000... the world has officially gone mad, although only around 50 of these early models were produced. This makes them rarer than hen's teeth.

Astonishing rebuild process. Considering the internal combustion engine for vehicles was 20 years old at the point that engine was built; makes you think a bit - some bright boys put this together.

Quite a gearbox very robust looking. It must whine quite a bit with those straight cut gears.. This is a very interesting series. I thank you for your desire to share with the world.

Strange that the reassembly is being done dry? We always used assembly lube to ensure all went smoothly on first startup.

Yes that's not a good practice, but those two gentlemen are doing quite a sloppy job, installing bearing with a hammer like some redneck crazy mecanic!

Sliding pinion gearboxes always show chipping and rounding of the tooth leading edges - even the most skilled driver is going to crunch the gears in a crash gearbox occasionally, especially when getting used to the particular vehicle - and this, of course, was a one-off, and a pretty fearsome one at that. In fact, I was struck by how pristine the gears in this were, reflecting the relatively few miles it actually travelled - you should see the state of the teeth in a bus or lorry gearbox which has done hundreds of thousands of miles!

I am not a mechanic, but I have some machining experience and have bee through abespoke gearmaining shop in Sheffield to see some of the processes involved in making large gears like these. I did notice some edge damage to two of the gears in this box, Not that nasty but did some of the teeth need dressing to smooth them - or would that be counterproductive?

When the car was making its record passes back in the day they had issues with 2nd gear engaging. That’s the result of it. I doubt this car will go into 2nd gear again since 1st gear takes you to 70mph.

So basically loads of people owning cheap 996s decided to vote for the 996s. They've got egg on their faces.

LOL, this guy is sore. What you are describing is exactly what air-heads have been doing for years. The 996 is an awesome car, dynamically vastly superior to the 993 or anything older. Massive jump forwards. The fried egg headlights are drop-dead gorgeous, and the lines are still slim and understated, unlike the later cars. Truly a highpoint of the line.

@MorningNapalm 2 ай бұрын
By the way both the 997 and 991 sold more numbers than the 996, so I don't know what it says for their owners, if they didn't win. Maybe it wasn't just 996 owners voting for their own cars, hey? One thing about 996 owners, they are in my experience much more likely to customise their cars and do something unique, whereas the older cars are mostly subject to pressure to stay stock, and the newer ones are already factory-customised to some extent. The 996 is the perfect base for making your very own.

Remember how cheap G models were not so long ago? Much cheaper than 996s? How quickly people forget. Where is the famed Porsche solidarity here? Porsche is supposed to be the brand without ridiculous snobbery. I love all Porsches personally. You should give it a re-think.
