Thank you friend, this build was rather expensive as I wanted a Yeti some years after it was discontinued.. so made up all from individually sourced (mostly) aftermarket parts.. Hot Summers...yes expecting a hot summer this one..not yet here though.. 110°F = 43°C .. we are coastal so milder.. above 40° on a handful of days in Summer .. usually a dry heat.. I love the country you are in as well... I try to mimic desert conditions in my videos..even though it can be quite cool.. 🙂 cheers Geoff

Good one Bro! The Rangie always did have an OTT suspension. Liked the always spectacular beach cliff setting, wheel treads and butterfly gems, but hey it’s a genuine EV, what’s with the rattly whine and non V8 sound!? 🤗

Thanks big brother .. yes, a true EV indeed.... straight cut gears for strength and simplicity 🙂 I might select a couple of clips and add some V8 sound, play around a bit, always good fun!

Very much enjoyed this blast from tge past. Would be interested to know wgat if ant mechanical issues/flat tyres uou had to endure?
@joliousvideous
@joliousvideous Жыл бұрын
We were fortunate with Tyres.. No Flats. The FJ55 was 3months old with only 2,000 km on the clock, so no issue at all. The hire Toyota Traytop was equally new - only issue was the Float Needle sticking new the end of the trip. THe Landrover developed an issue running on 5 of its 6 cylinders for the whole trip across the desert.. I believe a burnt out valve... not really sure. It hampered crossing the sand ridges for sure but we had a work around focussing on avoiding the softest sand with alternate routes and momentum rather than relying on power. No other mechanical issues. Thanks for your question.

Thanks for interest :-) Well... No GPS, all done with Compass, 1:50,000 Printed Maps, Binoculars and a well detailed Trip Log from George Aspley's trip 6 weeks earlier. He had written it for us to follow as our planning was well in place when he went. If we lost the track, we were given clues like.. from the top of a sandhill if the track was not visible search the horizon or next sand ridge looking for a dip/hollow in the ridge where a track may have been made and set a compass bearing towards it. Of course knowing that the Sand Ridges run north south heading East was an easy find. Eyre Creek also Runs North South and we would eventually come across it then travel up and down until finding a track. After Poeppel's Peg we lost the wheel tracks altogether and were driving blind for a day or 2. The Camp in the Claypan at 08:15 was not on any track at all... but we knew were getting close to Eyre Creek as the country was changing, eventually found our way back to the track and picked up George's Trip log to drive into Birdsville.. Was definitely not a well marked route by any stretch of the imagination.

Hello my Friend ! Was thinking of you the past few weeks. Born in 61, started recalling of,our trips,to Baja California and so many other trips. Glad you have images of the past. I wished we had more pictures of our trips growing up in Northern California. I guess we thought we would alway recall them . As we are the same age, it is something,how many more images we capture these days, compared to then. Cheers , Mark

Hi Mark, Born in 60 this trip was 2 weeks before my 16th birthday.. Baja and Northern California! ... nice parts of the country for sure. I am finding going through these old slides very therapeutic, Dad always took his camera on our holidays and slides were the thing. A lot of his slides were transferred to DVD with resolution quality lost and original slides discarded. - Had these original slides so rescanned to document this epic journey in 4k before I forget it all entirely - lol. You are right so many images nowadays next to now cost. It was a costly exercise back then - slides worked out more cost effective. I will get back into the RC videos - right now the weather is not enticing me to go outside much at all. Cheers Geoff

Hey Mark...cold beer and snow?.. Beer is for Hot Days, isn't it?.. like we have today 42°C (107°F) in my shed at the moment.. which is why I am not in it..lol.. Actually the Yeti chassis is the 1/10th version (not the XL) - but the body is somewhere between 1/8 and 1/7 to match it. I will get out again when cooler.. thanks for dropping by, Cheers Geoff.

Cheers thank you my friend.. Most of my trucks have Axial motors .. 55t/3s or 27t/2s for crawlers .. These Just Climb 5 pole? motors come in 13t, 16t, & 20t (haven't seen a 35t would like to get my hands on one though) and these motors run only on 2s. The Injora gearbox is higher geared than Axial / RC4wd / CR01 which I think is the issue.. I am hoping I can get it to feel right with the electronics setup .. Thanks for your kind comment .. cheers Geoff

Good Morning Mark.. Thank you for your kind words.. First RC 1986..wow!. I was intrigued by the Tamiya Hilux in the 80's but did not go into the hobby then because of the battery life at the time . .. 2010 was my first RC, a CR01 40 series..
