Loving to see you still selling these and being busy; learned a lot from your websites general reflections on society and developments. Are you still writing anywhere?

Not right now, but I really really need to be headed in that direction. I've got a kind of central site thing here : iko.kiwi - but there isn't really a plan - just experiments with a sense of direction.

I still have the ones I bought from your site a long time ago. They still hold up.

That is most excellent news :) - I've got this eccentric thing where I think of them tiny sliver protegees - sent out into the world. It is good to hear they're doing well :)

You have this 3 piece caliper set market cornered. All you have to do now is stabilize the search algorithm in certain search engines (Google) now. I had a difficult time searching for a set like this. I haven't even a clue as to how you can accomplish that though. I can't wait to receive your 3pc. set. Thank you for all your time and effort on this.

Partly Scottish, partly Kiwi. I was born on holiday by mistake, to 5th Gen Kiwi parents... about the same time as this was going on: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmWxf4GigNWGhNE Which is almost infinity ago.

you make golden ratio calipers, but together we can teach composition and design on the golden section
@kitkat93415 жыл бұрын
Nice painting, but not much on how the calipers aid the composition.

Agreed - it was a first attempt, and a bit of a controlled crash really. I think I was just using the calipers to draw out vague dimensions to start with... to be honest, I already had a pretty good idea of what these were going to be, but the calipers do help as a second opinion. If I'm doing design work for other people I use the golden mean all the time... but the final arbiter of taste is always what "feels right". The way the golden mean seems to work with both art and nature (apart from those parts of plants which are mathematically precise) is that it acts more as a centre of gravity than an absolute... and artistic tension often comes out of breaking the rules in any case. But it doesn't hurt to know what the rules are I guess.

do you sell these?
@goldenmeancalipers29845 жыл бұрын
I do yes - I make them and send them all over the world. My website is goldenmeancalipers.com
@josephososkie30295 жыл бұрын
Good explanation. Next question, why did Arthur C. Clark pick the dimensions of one by four by nine for the anomaly?.
@nicktaylor52645 жыл бұрын
This guy makes a fairly good case for the dimensions being deliberately created to be the same dimensions as the wide-frame cinema-screen that we're watching 2001 on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6G6fqGigq6Kd7c Although that's a Kubrick rather than a Clarke thing.

I'm not 100% sure - there's a video here though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZKueGVthLuZrck Those aren't mine in the video though... they're primitive DIY ones :)
