The beach guy might have been a figment of her imagination, an expression of the 'dependency' she has in reality on her diary - a diary that never judges her, allowing her to be her true self. Though the pages ended, her tales did not, symbolizing the need to 'step out of your comfort zone.' Dependency can hold you back from becoming what you truly deserve to be, as it deviates you from your soul's purpose.
