I have a Holley 670 on my 390 FE. It’s dialed in pretty close. On transfer slot steady driving my afr is about 12.8 to 13.8. When I nail it,it goes lean briefly. All the way to 20 on the afr. My idle restrictor is a .035 and my air bleed is a .075. If it’s rich before I wack it why is it going very very lean until the power valve and secondaries catch up? 670 truck avenger. NOS. Brown spring on vacuum secondary.

The 67 Corvette Holley (2 idle screws) uses IFR’s measuring .028”, so I stay in the .025” to .029” range more importantly w/4 corner. Favoring .025” IFR & smaller IAB’S. There is a range (IFR/IAB) of air to fuel ratio of around 19:1 area wise that seems to work well. Too big an IAB kills fuel velocity. I find modern Quick Fuel/Holley’s everything is too big. So one needs to recalibrate EVERY ORIFACE (IFR, IAF, PVR, JETS, everything) right out of the box to avoid black spark plugs, overly rich, and stinky exhaust. The transfer slots need to be restricted from .106” down to .081”/.078” because the T slots are too big. I’m talking street use not drag racing. I like your series😊
@holleycarbshowtosadvice40y903 күн бұрын
19 -1 is way to lean , usually they won't even idle at 19-1, if now talking about a stock engine yes it is much easier to figure your fuel curve A typical 4 corner idle circuit you need to limit your ifr size and increase your iab size, now if you add a racing cam you have to bypass enough air to correct your transfer slots and then you work with your ifr and iab . Hope this helps.

My nova was mostly used as a drag car, but when I locked out my distributor advance the engine idled so much better. There are several ways to do this, a full lock out or recurve the distributor advance, recurving the advance means for instance you might want to set your ignition timing to 26 degrees initially and bring 8 or 10 degrees in mechanically for your total ignition advance of maybe 34 to 36 degrees. You will probably need a start retard box to retard timing while cranking. I ran MSD ignition with a start retard box on mine but other companies offer the same thing. Hope this helps

Quick question for you. I have an original Holley 3310-2 that I restored. It has with a worn out original baseplate. I purchased a new 112-9 replacement baseplate made specifically for the first 4 generations on 3310. The transfer slots on the new unit are all the same length and short like the secondary transition slots are on most Holleys. The old base plate and my last two Holley carbs had longer primary transition slots. Could this 112-9 be a defect? All four T-slots measure .01945. Any ideas?

Its hard to say without seeing it, I've set up Holleys with no transfer slots exposed at idle at all, so the idle mixture is controlled by the mixture screws only and the transfer slots operate only above idle. I have seen some machining errors on the transfer slots but rarely.

Having a problem with a 1000 cfm dp down leg boosters, and hoping to maybe get pointed the right way. 500 cid bbc. Demon body with Holley 5 hole blocks (6 if you count kill bleed). This is in a boat and it’s under load all the time. Idle and transition are okay but once on the mains it continues to lean out. Jets are 91/98 with 070 pvcr primary. Emulsion is: kill bleed 027 then 028/0/028/0/0. Main air bleed is 28. Floats are right. Frustrated with how much jet I’ve needed. Dangerously lean at peak torque (4700 rpm - 14.2). Hi Randy I have watched these 2 vids multiple times before I started drilling the holes in the butterflys. Instant success ! I had been at my wits end trying to lean off the idle, these vids were the best explanation I could find. So I have solved one problem but created another now, I have a lean stumble off idle, not accelerator pump fault, that works fine this is a lean spot as you are at minimal throttle for instance like when you just want to creep the car along it will stall. If you blip the pedal it will move fine. Is this a lean transfer slot problem do you think. It didnt do this when is was running a rich idle. I think that's when my secondary throttle blades start opening. After that 1 second lean spot my AFR recovers to the 12.5-13AFR range as I stay at WOT for a few seconds more. I have my carb on a dual plane intake on a bone stock 302 with the yellow spring in the secondary diaphragm and it doesn't bog when I floor it to WOT. Please let me know if you have a solution for this issue. Thanks, Roland
