I like big flies, I don't fish salt water I fish lakes mostly so I am a fan of Kelly Galloup's large river flies but have also been influenced by Brita's large flies just scaled down a little . The large flies trigger bass strikes as well as large trout , I still fish for recently planted trout but in spring and fall I go with large flies. Another good salt water fly tier on KZbin is Coast fly he has some nice baitfish patterns.

I am still fishing with my 1967 Model 1495 Pflueger Medalist I bought for $9.95 I believe. I have caught hundreds of Trout , Steelhead, and Salmon in the last 50 years with it. On a whim, I bought a fancy very expensive reel 10 years ago. It lasted about 90 days. I still use my fly rod which is an original SAGE 4 piece 5#. I received it in 1973! No..they are not for sale.

Best saltwater rod bar none is the Loomis NRX. I've even caught a 150lb Lemon shark on an 8wt. Awesome.

I like this tyer , the video tutorial, and the fly . Ok ✅ , he’s got an olive color shirt. It just goes to shows contrasting styles and approach to fishing. You get the Swisher / Richard’s tribe promoting match the hatch , then you have the 4 eyed Shrimps people. Idk 🤷. I’ve heard of 8 eyed Spiders 🕷️. Fishing 🎣 sure is fun 🤩. Y’all have a good day 🙏

I live in Northumberland, where Hardy rods are made in fact, I've been to the factory. It was a eye opener! I am 79 yrs old and when I was 16 my grandfather bought me on for my birthday. I still have it been offered several times what he paid for it, i'll pass it on to one of my grandkids, and I could be a lady owner because the best fisher is a girl? She uses my favourite rod, which is my sage 7 weight.

Great video, I so agree with your assessment of both types of fishing the fly rod to me is more like going on a recon mission to locate and ambush where spinning or conventional is cast and relax. I am new to saltwater Fly Fishing and practicing your casts are a must to be successful and for many that have no patience it would be complicated and frustration will set in so this style of fishing is not for everyone and when a person passes that level of casting then they can learn and try wrapping their own match the hatch flies during the off season. I love this type of fishing specially on a long stretch of beach and you won't have to drag or carry so much just enjoy the scenery, Peace.

I own three rods two Moonshine Rods and a Loomis. I would say mid range on the price and they all fit how I cast very nicely. I will say quality matters especially on the casting end of these rods. That said price is irrelavent find what you enjoy fishing with at the price you can afford. Just remember whatever the rod cost you the reel may cost just as much.

I bought a Helios D in 9', 9 weight for salmon on the Salmon River, NY. People like to complain about the label, but to me, that blank is so boring to look at, it needed the label to add a little pizzaz. It's a shame, but for $1200, the most aesthetic parts of the package are the rod tube and the sock. For me, it's accurate to 45 feet.

Likely the best video I’ve seen on tarpon leaders and fantastic on rationale: thickness/flexibility, step down, stretch, class & bite tippet, etc. Would love to see a video on the “covernangle” (sp?) knot you mention.

So do you fish this during the Ned hatch or only when you’re out of mop flies and can’t find live bait?

Great fly. This fly was featured on the back page of Fly Tyer magazine. The video clears up the tying technique. I'm tying some for my box for use this winter in Tampa Bay. Usually a size 6 hook is used on the Tampa Bay flats. Thanks for the video.

Just started back fly fishing this year after not doing it for nearly 20 years. This is one important tip that I have yet to see anywhere else in the countless videos I've watched and something I would have never thought of. Kudos.

This video is exactly what I needed. I’m in Texas and have been bitten by the flyfishing bug - bitten BADLY! Do y’all work with people from out of state - like by mail? I’m looking to build my first saltwater setup for redfish, trout and other drum species. Can I call and figure it out, pay with a CC or send you a cashiers check and have it shipped to me in Texas?

I have many fly rods from thomas & thomas and i could say , yes you should spend $$ on high end rods, take a paradigm 9' #4 wt for all around trout, a sextant 7 wt you can fishing streamer for trout, saltwater, bass , carp. And a contact 2 10' #3 wt. High quality , high durability and nice in hand because the grip is so good i don't like entry rod for the quality of the cork. I prefer spend money and keep my rod 10/20 years than change rod all of 2/5 years because the cork leave my rods
