Many thanks to both of you! Noopiming is assigned to my SF State writing students this Fall, and this is going to be helpful in our making our way. I've been following Leanne's (prolific) work these recent years. When I first saw Noopiming, immediately I remembered the rocky hill covered with trees and brush in Northern Minnesota near where I grew up, that bore this name. It was the site of a hospital, a TB sanatorium when I was a child. Things started to fall together... as they come apart. Grateful for this moving, transforming work.

Solace of Open Spaces a key book in my life. And memories of Gretel driving to Mountain and Plains Booksellers Meeting in her truck from the ranch to keynote. Just finished Unsoliced and it felt like a friend had returned to my life even though the global events of the planet she writes about bring tears. Thanks for this interview the perfect visit with old friends.

Miigwetch, much gratitude to you both, Leanne and Natalie. I read Noopiming last summer and realized that it is a book to live into, gradually, over multiple readings. I don't think I've ever read a text that integrates art, theory, history, history, and activism in such a creative whole. Natalie, I'm excited to have discovered your poetry.

I went to jr & high school wth Shary, I can confirm she hasn't changed, talented, unique and counter culture. I last spoke to her where the Jimi Hendrix statue now stands in front of the art school she attended, summer of 1970.

Great conversation. I reached out to Shary about putting together a Trots & Bonnie anthology over 10 years ago but she didn't think it would fly in the 2000s. Here were are in 2021 and thank goodness we now have a record of those wonderfully subversive comics from my youth. Congratulations Shary!

def plan on buying both of their books, but in a healthy spirit of pragmatism... what more does a wasp like me need but to Remember the titles as if they were written on a cornerstone... Be the Refuge. Occupy This Body. Instrument of Thy Peace.
