Allow me a humble opinion, as an 1th generation born in the Americas, Spanish Portuguese. I must weigh in. First of all those present at the Alamo were not Texans, they were white anglo Saxon protestants and other European extraction but more specifically they were in Mexico, which had allowed a certain amount of settlers under certain terms to come to another country,Mexico. Under the conditions of becoming Mexican citizens and integrating. No slaves were permitted but they brought some anyway. Basically the Alamo was an eviction from a landlord to a occupant of private property. End of Story. What you are descrbing is a Disney movie of the week. I have heard it all now. Get over yourselves. Texans for crying out loud.

So glad you weighed in...Independence had been declared - they were Texians and Tejanos. Mexico did not agree, for obvious reasons. Nor did the constantly changing Mexican government agree with the other states who rebelled. Was the Zacatecas rebellion put down because the Zacatecans were evil white slaveholders? Were the Tejanos in the Alamo likewise WASPs? I note that you don't address much of the substance in this video, so I have to wonder if you even watched it.

Here is the true history of the Alamo: Mexico (Spanish) kill all the Indians (now needing people to keep land fertile and good) Mexico invites Americans (note: the verb infinitive - to invite) to establish (note: an invited presence, meaning that the invitation can be revoked any time). Mexico says, "time to leave Americans!! Your VISA is over!! Get out!!! Leave!!!! Goodbye!!! Vamanos!!! Adios!!! etc..." The Americans refuse to leave. Then Mexico says (much like guests staying past a party invitation) - OK! We (Mexican Army will remove you with force) Americans - come and get us!!! We all know the Americans dig in at a small former Catholic mission (the Alamo). Not only that, the Americans then say to other Americans (failing to say that Mexico invited them and now the invitation is revoked; the Mexican Government has informed them of this; Mexico (as it is their domain) threatened Armed force to remove persons who now refused to leave) other Americans to fortify (the current American illegal occupation of Mexican land (after Mexico has revoked their invitation). The small force then digs in Americans (not knowing the full truth) come to protect (the Republic of Texas) As history (from this point) - states - a fight ensues the Mexican Army defeats the people at the Alamo The rallying cry - Remember the Alamo - then unites Americans (into invading a foreign Nation and stealing an entire Nation from a Sovereign Nation (Mexico) War breaks out (because Americans refuse to leave when legally told to leave and the invitation to stay has been legally revoked). All of this can be stated: We (the US) stole Texas from Mexico. We refused to leave. Mexico did everything to keep their lands. The Mexican war Stole Texas from Mexico.

The defenders/victims of the Alamo were nothing more than people who revolted against Mexican rule after they had sworn on the Mexican flag to live in Texas and respect the laws of Mexico. It's all about the betrayal of their word, such a glorious past, it's not!

Wooo! This guy did this all from 2 what 1-2 hr visits to the Alamo. Then took all his info out side the state for what a month or less? Did he even walk a arouond the city or any of the city or towns in and around San Antonio to gain further insight and prospective. Probably not. I’m from Texas. In fact I was born near the Alamo and did most of my primary education outside of Houston. As every person growing up and who went to school in the state can tell you we had a full year of Texas history in junior high. Hell an over a 1/3 of the 450 page book was on the Texas Revaluation and about over half of that was about the battle of the Alamo and it’s history to that point. Heck I even visited the Alamo in the late 80’s. I don’t know what this guy was smoking while there. But he must have been passed his degrees with barely a passing grades. The Hispanic contributions to the Texas Revolution, and the fight at the Alamo are not only well documented, respected, but practically thriving and flourishing all over the city to this day. Sure in recent years My home State has gone off the deep end politically, ethically, at times racially. But over all as Texans the majority of us have always been inclusive and respectful. Though we may act indifferently and gruff when doing it. Texan’s do have an image that has sort of been in bedded in their psyche, about playing nice with others. But one thing we can’t stand is idiots getting facts wrong. Especially about our state’s historical monuments, and definitely not the Alamo.
@HectorWPadilla7 күн бұрын
The Alamo exhibit captures heroism but oversimplifies the Texas Revolution’s complexities. It often overlooks &/or downplays slavery and the marginalization of Tejanos like Juan Seguín, Lorenzo de Zavala, and others, who played vital roles but were later sidelined ( Freemasons, York Rite) . While settlers fought for independence, their refusal to follow Mexico’s terms-no slavery, learning Spanish, adopting customs, converting to Catholicism, and paying taxes-sparked the rebellion. Santa Anna, though opportunistic, represented Mexico’s centralized government. A balanced narrative would honor all contributions, including Tejanos, while addressing the cultural and political divides of the time.
@texashistorytrust6 күн бұрын
What do you think should be said about Zavala at the Alamo, exactly? Or do you think the Alamo is supposed to tell the entire history of all of Texas?

We should be critical, insofar as critiquing the status quo. A lot of the time, the “woke vs. anti-woke” quarrel is actually over whose ideological status quo should be the dominant one. In other words, a fight over who gets to tell you what to think.

Critiquing the status quo, i.e. critical thinking, is a necessary skill, sure. It's vital to survival. Critical theory/praxis and critical thinking are not one in the same though they sound the same.

And loved the history of the Alamo. But one thing Bothered her. She was tokd to ask her question. She asked out loud, i love the Alamo history. BUT WHY WOULD THE BUILD THE ALAMO IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA, HER HUSBAND LAUGHED AND EMBARRASSED. RESPONDED TO HER. AND SAID HONEY WHEN THE ALAMO BATTLE WAS FOUGHT. THERE WAS NO DOWNTOWN SAN ANTONIO. S.A. WAS BUILD AROUND THE ALAMO. WE ALL LAUGHED LOUDLY TOO. .

I've had a relative ask the exact same question, but not during a tour and not within earshot of anyone! At the time of the siege/battle downtown San Antonio, such as it was, was across the San Antonio River. That's where Santa Anna set up shop. The Alamo's historic structures definitely surreal next to the style of the Menger, the gothic Emily Morgan, and the federal-style courthouse building!

The Alamo is a fort. A fort doesn't have a mouth or hands. Without a mouth or hands, a fort cannot speak or write (or eyes, if you are a Hawking fan. The Alamo, as a fort, has no eyes even though the Eyes of Texas are Upon You). If a fort cannot speak or write because it has no mouth or hands, a fort cannot lie. Based on the evidence presented, I submit to you my conclusion that no, the Alamo does NOT, in fact, lie. I hope this brief educational break was as fun for you as it was for me. Seguin isn't represented enough. Unfortunately his story is rarely told about how anglos raided his ranch because of his ethnicity he left back to Mexico. Sadly even Sam Houston couldn't get him to stay. It's unfortunate this is considered CRT not history.
@texashistorytrust12 күн бұрын
It wouldn't be CRT, but there's far more nuance to the Seguin story than the racial angle. Seguin was seeking financial stability, like everyone then (and now.) He engaged in some questionable trade with Mexico at a time when Mexico was still sending forces into Texas. It's not a simple as "brown man persecuted." At many points in our history, that was the case. With Juan Seguin circa 1842, it wasn't. To tell the story of Seguin is to tell a complicated, fascinating tale indeed.
@ariesmars266512 күн бұрын
@texashistorytrust it is indeed a fascinating story however he indeed was raised by settlers who were against Mexican settlers so much so he wrote Sam Houston about it.

The men at the Alamo fought for freedom- the freedom to buy, sell, and own slaves. Santa Ana had outlawed slavery in Mexico, and these transplanted Southerners wanted to expand the institution into the Southwest ahead of the Civil War. American lies and propaganda at its finest.
