Thank you for this video! I have an almost 5 month old standard poodle, he is my service dog in training and we will be doing sports when he is older. This should help him build some confidence and the fundamentals for agility! I've never done sports with my dogs, my parents wouldn't let me. I "competed" against myself in my backyard with my first service dog and my 2nd service dog. I studied books and watched many videos and I trained my doggos. I hope my pup and I do well when we compete. I don't care about winning, it would be nice if we won though so I could make a little ribbon display for my pup. He is graduating from his puppy classes tomorrow and every time I think about it I start crying. My little baby is growing up so fast..

Crate training is essential for puppies. You never know when you're going to have an emergency and the dog will need to be crated for transport or it's general safety. Fire, earthquake, car accident and your transported to the hospital, hurricane, tornado, whatever. The last thing you want is for your adult dog to suddenly find itself in a crate and freak out.

When my now 5-yr-old dog (who I got at 10wks) hit his teenage stage, my perfect puppy school graduate turned into a holy hellion on walks. What this meant is he would start lunging, barking and biting the leash (closer and closer to my hand) any time he saw a trigger - and his triggers were birds, squirrels, bunnies and neighborhood dogs barking - all things impossible to avoid in the environment. He wasn’t aggressive but he was definitely over-aroused and lacked the ability to regulate his emotions. I couldn’t take him to the nearby park as there were always flocks of geese. The up/down game saved me - saved US! He had a pretty solid 123 game at that point but his arousal level with triggers was next level so I needed something more and up/down was it. In nearly every circumstance of over-arousal, I was able to regain his focus and calm him down where we could continue our walk. This simple exercise was such a game changer and I now use it with my fosters (along with 123). These two “tools” are my favorite in teaching loose leash walking and in particular, around distractions. I can now take him anywhere with confidence. So simple, yet so impactful!

Steps to take with a dog that's unable to relax lying down for more than 3 seconds? I've seen lots lf videos like this but your dogs are nowhere near mine's level of excitement and I don't know how yo close that gap
@artlu1005 ай бұрын
Dr Karen Overall’s relaxation protocol is a good place to start along with mat / boundary games. Build value into remaining still on a mat / bed. Be patient, it can take a while … if you can get three seconds of calm -celebrate! See if you can build up to four…
