Great lesson. Thanks very much. I have loved this song since the 70's. John is a little bit like Richard Thomson, another great guitarist of that same era.

Haha well spotted! Yeah I hadn't played it in a few years - would definitely do some serious practice before doing a full video

Nice! You might mention around 0:52 that besides "just holding down my third finger on string 6" that you're also touching string 5 to deaden it.

Nice sound. You could make this a lot easier by using a capo, as John does.

This is wonderfull. Four chords are in easy notation ... x57555 8555xx 7xx577 057555 ? Root is D B Bb D sop chords are Dsus Bsus Bb/Dsus Dsus ? No Geesus bot lotsa suspensded chords it seems. Marte you deserve more subs. Martyn aint easy.

Nice work Arran, love the pull offs on the D chord chiming arpeggio, sounds cracking and you voice suits that song really well. Always thought John always sounded off his head when playing this tune, haha. One little point, did he use dropped D on the E string to use as a drone note ..... anyway brilliantly executed..... cheers
@ArranGlass Жыл бұрын
Thanks for this! Yeah the story goes that they'd recorded the whole album and the version of this had drums and full band and wasn't quite sitting well. John went back down into the studio at 3am (definitely wasted) and laid down this masterpiece in one take. I made this video during lockdown for people who might want to learn guitar and also if they might want to sing over it. The actual version John plays is much more complicated and almost impossible to sing over as voice and rhythm are seemingly completely independent. I believe all his strings are heavily dropped with the low E down to a D (but then everything lower still if that makes sense) Then he plays with a capo on three or four. I'm planning on doing some more videos soon so will try and include some for higher levels!
