riding a 390RR i know the feeling. it tracts and lugs like mad, but in many situations, momentum and speed helps. easy to say but rather hard to do when you must force yourself to open throttle in muddy tracks with cross ruts or these steep rocky climbs ;) . Nice video . thks

I see the fella by the river crossing at the end was not home! He usually comes out shouting about it being private land.
@kelvinvarney1906
@kelvinvarney1906 Жыл бұрын
The ford was removed from the TET in 2020 because of the claims about it being private. What may be more legal is across the bridge and behind the houses by the graveyard. Check out www,findmystreet and where the Google Streetview car goes. Powys online definitive map does not show across the footbridge as a public right of way so its not a footpath. It could well be an unclassified county road.

I'm interested in joining the TRF myself. I'm located in Cwmbran, so you would be my local group. I'm riding a GasGas ES700, I notice most of you are riding lighter Enduro bikes. Do you have many members using larger bikes like the 690/701 etc? Thanks

Not that I'm aware off. It wasn't my ride I was just tail man. Best thing is to join the TRF (Trail Riders Fellowship) loads of benefits in doing so. You can then join your local group and find out routes that way. South Wales TRF does have routes available on its FB page but you need to be a TRF member to gain access.

Yes they are all known confirmed legal vehicular green roads except one. That one I am still waiting on a reply from the council to confirm its status as it was only discovered recently. Some as you can see are dead ends so folk tend not to use them. The ride started in Risca and went over to Tonyrefail and back to Risca.

Any advice on riding the ruts? My front tyre keeps climbing out. Thanks.
@kelvinvarney1906
@kelvinvarney1906 Жыл бұрын
Practice then practice some more! Try using the throttle and clutch to assist your balance. Sometimes slightly slowing down or speeding up can aid balance. Practice the same rut several times that way you know whats coming. Standing up can give you more ability to move the bike around to maintain balance. Don't look too far ahead or too close to the front wheel. There is an optimum distance based on speed. Avoid being distracted, concentrate but don't tense up.
@ogasi1798
@ogasi1798 Жыл бұрын
TOES IN at all times and ride on the balls of your feet this pushes knees into tank try to keep arms relaxed and stand as much as possible LOOK at the end of the rut, in a corner look at the end or the direction you desire to go, NEVER trace your front wheel with your eyes as that is why balance fails and thus front wheel climbs - you can also steer into the side of a rut to counter balance your weight, sounds weird but counter steering works this way 🙂

Not the CCM (450) this time. How do you decide which one to ride? Also wondering if you took the higher route on the section where some of the group struggled up the lower path? Further to fall from the higher route but looked a bit easier once up there. Great trails though I would struggle on some.
@kelvinvarney1906
@kelvinvarney1906 Жыл бұрын
The CCM is a 644, DR650 based engine. I didn't have the CCM at the time only the Xtrainer. That was nearly six years ago. I still have the Xtrainer but its set up for long distance trials (gearing, tyres etc) plus I don't mind putting the miles on the CCM. Its also better on tarmac, if 50% heavier when it comes to the trails. I took the same route in the gulley just kept the momentum on as one of the others did on an Xtrainer in the vid. There really only was one line.

It depends where you are in the UK. Although wherever you are the best thing you can do is join the TRF. They have 45 regional groups and all of them organise rides. Some more than others. This is the website to find out about them and join. Scroll down to see all. www.trf.org.uk/join/

Ah right. I caught the others on my phone camera. Often when you film it from your point of view it doesn't look anything like as difficult as the camera flattens the view. Search KZbin for Wiltshire Byways and then search in his list of vids for Goldenhill Road. There are two vids riding it both ways.

Mine is a 644 with the Suzuki DR650 based engine actually out of an XF650 Freewind Suzuki 644cc. The earlier 604 had the belt driven Rotax engine. CCM is Clews Competition Motorcycles. They did make a 404 that had the Suzuki DRZ engine.
