I think your pieces are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your process. Ive been trying abstract for just about a year now. Feeling miserable right now because I had a bad painting day. My paintings are too busy and i dont know how to quiet them down. Im making one for my friend of 55 yrs. She thinks my style is beautiful. I happen to love your style. I think i need to play more on paper.

Hi Diane. Thank you so much for sharing and for the lovely compliment. First of all, don’t despair. Creating abstract art is challenging. There’s so much to keep in mind and also, do consider,…, you’re making it up from scratch, starting from nothing to something,… not working from a picture or something that you are looking at,… so,… just one year in, cut yourself a lot of slack :-) I don’t know what your work looks like but i can tell you this, new artists often put a lot in their work. As you get more versed with your materials, composition, what you like & don’t like, you’ll learn to discern and simplify, keeping only what hits the mark of what you are expressing. But that takes time. You’ll want to pay attention to things like techniques you utilize that feel good to you and make you say “yes”, same with colours, lines, shapes, textures, certain compositions, ways you like to create, for example, tidy & controlled or wild and whimsical or,… Keep making lots of work. Step back to look at each painting with an analytical & inquisitive mind. What in my painting feels good? What feels messy, confusing or nebulous? What’s my favorite part? Does everything else in the painting support my crescendo? My focal point? Do I need everything there or can I edit some out and perhaps have those things in a different painting. Keep going, keep learning, go for joy, not judgement. And remember, you don’t have to have everything in one painting : ) Hope this helps. xP

This was fantastic! Cutious what was that long stick looking thing that you started with I like how distant your hand is to the canvas when you're using that long looks like maybe a big pastel. I really love your work. I think it's amazing and now I've subscribed to your channel which I didn't know about, thanks so much

The best part of it is that there is dedication to a "feeling time". She is not just randomly going around. She is making some strokes, then going back, giving time to "feeling", then back to few more strokes, then feeling again

This has been very helpful, thank you. I came back from a holiday in Ireland with hundreds of photos of stone walls! I want to use them as references and jumping points for some work, but I get a very dark version of what I experienced - maybe I need to have a lighter hand, especially with my ArtGraf (which I love) and save my woodies and Inktense Blocks for much later. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing all these tips. They're really helping and inspiring. I'd like to do more abstract painting, but I find it harder than a realistic painting. You're reminding me of having fun during the process and explore more. The hardest thing for me is to stop in time. Your work is so balanced and I realize again that less is more🙏
@paulinejansart6 ай бұрын
So glad you found this helpful Jacqueline. Abstract art is harder. Because we're making it all up with no reference image to guide us.
