Redcat ascent trasnfercase with overdrive gears is what I did.

Very nice! I just watched the video. I'm sure that was WAY cheaper than the way I did it and more ratio options for sure. I'm not sure I even knew the Ascent existed when I made that video. I would have to do some research because I'm curious how the ratios compare to the HPI case. Even with the under-drive, the T-case reduction was bad. It has a TGH 2 low in it now. I need to do an update video on this rig. Maybe I need to do the Ascent swap so I can go back to the HPI axle :)
@TrokaRC19 күн бұрын
@mikestinytruckshop 2low is best option 30% od and placed on the center of the chassis. I found a few forums talking about this swap. Not sure on ratio but know that by going with 2in1 fusion se you can go slow with foc for like $70 total.
@mikestinytruckshop19 күн бұрын
@@TrokaRC I mispoke. My venture currently has the TGH O.G. transfer case W\O underdrive, not the 2 low. The OG has 1.92 ratio where the venture case is like 1.5 if I remember correctly. Made a huge difference. I have been running a 3bros yellowjacket 1500kv and Holmes crawlmaster mini for a good while now. Also modded the motor mount for clearance and running a 10t pinion. Its geared about as low as it can get which is what I like. I have a few of the fusions around but I liked the idea of the outrunner for less weight due to how high the motor sits in the venture.
@TrokaRC19 күн бұрын
@mikestinytruckshop Didn't want to ask but that's what I remembered. I have the og transfercase also but didn't want to bite off your build lol. Brushless is the way to go that's for sure.

I still enjoy running mine. What are the offset of those wheels? Really like your setup.
@mikestinytruckshop24 күн бұрын
They are SSD steel beadlocks. Specs show 1.5mm offset. They are pretty neutral. I have since switched to some locked up RC wheels but those are on my Redcat Ascent. Do you know if it's possible to simple swap the pinion and ring gear instead of the whole axle? It's frustrating how little information there is out there on these kits. I was gifted an Venture SBK and have been reviewing your awesome videos - I'm just not sure if I'm willing to buy an entire axle to get under/overdrive.

Unfortunately the aftermarket never really took off for these. HPI was way late to the party on the release and then the company had issues and changed hands a couple times and the truck was discontinued for a while. None of that helped. It’s unfortunate because it is still a cool platform. Even when there was a small bit of aftermarket support, I never saw anybody make a set of gears. Would have been way cheaper and easier for sure. I really need to do an update video on this truck because a lot has changed. I am currently running a TGH transfer case. Went without UD since I already did this but it has a way better crawl ratio. That might be an easier option but not sure it’s any cheaper. You would also need to print or adapt a custom flat skid to make that work.
@paulm12375 ай бұрын
@@mikestinytruckshop I can design and print no problem. Have a model or part number for that tcase?
@mikestinytruckshop5 ай бұрын
@@paulm1237I went with the team garage hack OG gearbox with out OD. It is available with 15% OD in the front but you would end up with a higher crawl ratio than I like. A better option for a stock axle setup in my opinion would be the Creeper-T. Same front ratio as my OG but 30% rear UD. It’s hard to get a small pinion on these so they are way overgeared for me. The Creeper T should solve all those issues.
@paulm12375 ай бұрын
@@mikestinytruckshop You're right, the OG with OD is a better match for the final drive. The Creeper T (and ali knock offs) are all 1.9:1 and 2.6:1 which is a significant difference from the stock 1.5:1 ish output. Can you recommend any good videos on how to estimate and calculate final drive gear ratios?
@mikestinytruckshop5 ай бұрын
@@paulm1237 You are correct that the creeper t is a significantly lower ratio than the stock TC. But keep in mind that out of the box, a Venture RTR has a 26.74 FDR. For reference, an SCX 10.2 RTR is 40.44. It breaks down like this….60t spur/17t pinion=3.52 x 1.52 transmission x 1.5 TC x 3.31 diff = 26.74. So assuming changing only the TC ratio, the straight 1.92 OG gives us 34.22. The OG with OD comes out to 29.59 front/33.96 rear. The creeper T drops it to 33.87 front/46.34 rear. For reference, my setup is a 12t pinion (takes extensive clearancing), the straight OG TC and with the AR44 rear axle swap comes out at 48.61 front/55.08 rear. Basically the Venture is way over geared and needs all the drop it can get. Sorry to throw so many numbers at you but I hope that helps.

When that video was made, it had the 4.75 Hyrax in G8 compound on SSD beadlocks and CI foams. Since then, I have switched to a set of 4.75 KM3s in Predator compound on Locked Up RC beadlocks with single stage foams in back and dual stage in front. They work much better than the Hyrax in the type terrain we have around here. The current combo are the ones I built in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYO5nKOcltJ3ZpY

@@ausrcmonstertrucksandcrawl1747 Actually I take that back. I did print one that I found on thingyverse and tried to modify it to fit the outrunner and small pinion but it broke. @@mikestinytruckshop Yeh I was really unsure about that printed one. I'm running a 14t pinion atm. I've been looking into making my own transfer case out of Mod1 pinions. The big issue for me is not wanting to raise the gear ratio any more than it already is. HPI way over geared these for my taste. Since this video, I have pretty much redone the entire drivetrain. It’s currently running a 1500KV outrunner with 10t pinion into a 1:9 team garage hack transfer case and a 13% UD rear diff. It creeps super smooth and works really well.

I would have to check but I believe the element and scx10ii have the same mounting pattern so I bet you could make one of their 10ii boxes work. Their T210 actually lists that’s it has element bolt pattern but it doesn’t specify if it works with the stock skid. I’m sure anything can be made to work if you like to fabricate custom stuff. I would say ask TGH but I have never been able to get a reply to emails. Maybe there is a better avenue to get hold of them.

Hey thanks for sharing this. I went for the yeah racing brass set for my trx4. Couldn’t find samix part available near me.
