What AI nightmare is this? The images are both hilariously bad and just plain scary. It is funny to see AI continuing to be incapable of rendering human hands (among other things), especially since beautiful hands are a ballet fundamental.😆

La Bayadere is a genius of beauty with the Act of Shades. I am always sublimely satisfied by the choreography. The corp years of training and rehearsals is the triumph to the excellence for Shades. Just exquisite in and of itself. Brava.

Which website would have the audacity to force the uploader to mute some the music in order to comply with copyright laws? Which copyright laws are these? Tchaikovsky has been dead for 200 hundred years. No laws apply after such a long period. It's insulting enough to have KZbin insert unwanted and distracting commercials throughout the ballet, that a viewer be subjected to such shoddy practices. Not only is it shameful but in bad taste. Bravo to corporate greed!

I dont understand what some of you are raving about - the dancers are weak or at the very least, they are merely acceptable regarding technique. The acting is dry to non-existent. Nureyev's typically pretentious and unnecessary revisions in the choreography are silly. Only the orchestra redeems this performance - for years the POB had to deal with lackluster playing of Minkus's score when they performed Nureyev's "La Bayadère"...but now the orchestra, at least at the Opéra Bastille, sounds light years better, though unfortunately they have to play in the absurdly tempi that today's dancers prefer for many of the pure dance numbers such as the Golden Idol or the Entrée of the Shades.

Right up there with swan lake as the most important classical ballets in the canon. My son just started his career as a professional dancer and the test for him of whether a company was fo him or not was whether they have La Bayadere in their repertoire.

I’m reading a lot of negative comments here. First of all, the video and sound quality are not great that’s true. Second, this version is the 1984 one by Nureyev, for the Paris National Opera Ballet. It is well known for being a stripped down, darker, more psychological (look at the transitions between Act I and II, and even more between Act III and IV… Is the Swan Lake even real?) and less fairytale-like interpretation of what you’d see in Russia for instance. Also, the Paris Opera Ballet (the oldest in the world, and the one that originated most ballet terms and techniques) is known to dance in this very restrained, disciplined, delicate, not over the top or overly athletic style. It’s not a lesser way of doing things, it’s just different from what Russia does, especially the Bolchoi which is famous for being particularly theatrical.

Something's wrong with the audio. Am I the only one having problems? For example, at 1:04:00 where the music seems to fade in and out, and at 2:16:07, where the audio cuts out completely. I know I watched this a few weeks ago with no audio problems. Did something change?

this performance was memorable ❤ it's a joy to watch from the beginning till the end . The cast is fabulous , I loved a lot the performance of Joshua Hoffalt ,he had been named étoile just a few days before the recording of this performance when danced with Dorothée Gilbert who was supposed to dance this night but finally was replaced by the premiere danseuse Ludmila Pagliero ,what a great ballerina !!! it is also interesting to see in this performance Valentine Colasante and Héloïse Bourdon 😊 Ludmila Pagliero as Gamzatti is stellar , grandiose , her grand pas is magnificent ,actually she was named étoile that evening ❤😊!!! Sabrina Mallem danced fabulously the drums dance , she was splendida ,what a performance . I even saw te still unknown Hannah O'Neill in the corps de ballet ,now she's a super star and danced Gamzatti just three years after this filmed performance. I think this march 2012 performance will remain as one of the most important performances of these years ❤
