Dream Scenario is fun but it's like comparing the filet mignon of the the curse to a big fat cheeseburger

this album was only released on cassette and not widely distributed, so this version is the (possibly bootlegged) original. a few years ago master tapes were discovered containing just her vocals and organ and no strings or synth, and that’s the one you’ll find officially on streaming etc. i think they are nice companion pieces - one is intimate and one is otherworldly.

I have loved this song for a while now, and now with the TV show “the curse” bringing some attention to how amazing it is, I hope that Alice Coltrane‘s son releases the original master tapes. In the album liner notes for the stripped back re-issue he dubs it a “difficult creative decision” to remove many facets of the instrumentation. Even though this album may not have been widely distributed in its time, it was lightning in a bottle, it moves beyond “New Age” music and become some thing groundbreaking and rather experimental, which is what I think makes her composition special. And I am shocked that her son cut so much away from a master work intentionally.

Furthermore, I am seriously considering writing a letter to her son asking him to release the original work. I know that sounds insane, but if it exists, it needs to be out. And it’s wrong to withhold it. It’s truly amazing. If you feel as passionately about this random, borderline lost album as I do, perhaps you can do the same. Her son is a respectable guy, and seems very nice, but I want to kindly nudge him into understanding what a knockout this album was in its original form.

Turns out the original string/synthesizer overdub tapes are missing, so the new remaster is missing those tracks. Wish this version was on streaming!!! Feels like I'm missing half the experience.

@@FKAMimikyu Absolutely haha that is my current hyper-fixation show. I saw a trailer for Murder at the End of the World and I really wanna watch it! I have a soft spot for anything with Clive Owen so I’ll have to check it out
