I have watched this beautiful soul-searching movie at least five times. Also thIs started me on deep research about WW2. Deeply saddening. I have to remind myself that this film, deeply sympathetic to both characters as it is, is nevetheless fictional.

Фильм как редкий бриллиант, ни с каким другим не могу его сравнить. Совершенно случайно попался мне и, посмотрев его, была потрясена. Всем советую посмотреть, окунуться в эту трагичную ситуацию, когда двое полюбили друг друга чистой, возвышенной любовью, но не могут быть вместе из-за войны. Хочется смотреть этот фильм бесконечно

Yes Werner is the man you would take home to meet your parents , if only he wasn't a Nazi, These Nazis confuse me I know I shouldn't like them because they are the enemy yet they often look so handsome in those magnificent uniforms..

This is what I take from the film: Her jaw dropped at the first sight of him and fell into a free fall. The grandfather saw it and warned her to "put the log( i.e. her love for him) aside and don't let it burn needlessly." Werner did not know right away. He certainly liked Jeanne and caring and protecting her was his second nature. Upon noticing that besides all other odd behaviors, she began styling her hair, throwing hot stares at him at the pier side, and visiting his room, he realized that she must be loving him. When she was awash in tears and cried "Adiou", his jaw dropped. He was, at that moment , ready to reciprocate and loving her back. This time it was him not talking. His silence spoke loud and clear.

My favourite movie. I could watch it every day . No dialogues, only looking into each other's soul. What we would give to know love as this one with the hurt and all.

Bello film. 2da parte: 27 años después, así pueden actuar los mismos protagonistas, ya maduros. Ella, soltera con una hija, Verna, fruto de un abuso por un camarada de la Resistencia, sigue dando clases de piano y habitando la misma casa. Verna se involucra en las protestas del Mayo Francés del 68. Werner regresó del frente ruso herido gravemente en sus manos. Esa compleja situación y la insistencia familiar lo llevaron a casarse con la alemana Greta con la que tuvo un hijo, Hans. Ahora es viudo. Cuando Hans viaja a Francia para el usufructo de una beca dadas sus dotes como pianista, lleva consigo a su padre. Juntos regresan al pueblo casi incambiado donde transcurrió la 1era parte del film. Y allí se produce el inesperado y maravilloso encuentro de los amantes que nunca supieron más uno del otro y que sólo se amaron a través de la mirada y la música. Me parece creíble la 2da. Parte.

No me gustó la película. Me dejó mal sabor. El protagonista todo un caballero. Ella orgullosa, maleducada y sosa. Al final reacciona cuando ya es tarde....
