good job. seems the surface of the parts is kind of rough, or maybe that's the parts designed for?
@dillonb
@dillonb 4 ай бұрын
Its an powder based 3d printing type so it will always have some sort of roughness on the surface because of the powder (unlike resin). SLS prints are a little rougher but way cheaper for lower build numbers

Can somebody please explain to me what makes HP's multi jet fusion printers hundreds of thousands of dollars better than the Formlabs Fuse 1+ ? I know formlabs has a comparison on their website but I'm asking in regards to mostly print quality and print strength. He kind of glossed over sls vs mjf
@Extolinc
@Extolinc Жыл бұрын
The main difference is area-based printing vs point-based printing. MJF typically is more dense based on a larger area of the print bed being exposed to IR energy at once vs the laser tracing individual points in SLS. The IR energy of MJF creates micro welds between layers as it penetrates several layers deep on each pass. The build size and throughput go to MJF as well. It appears MJF has the edge on Flexural Strength and Impact Properties as well.

Does one of the plastic parts have to be transparent?
@Extolinc
@Extolinc 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Josef. Thank you for your question. Yes, with through-transmission laser welding, at least one of the plastic parts has to be transparent to IR. However, there are some materials that appear black/opaque to the human eye but are transparent to IR.

@Extolinc

UPDATE! We can now weld two opaque plastic parts with our Direct Laser Welding technology. With this technology, the laser energy is applied directly to both halves of the assembly; the energy is not transmitted through a transmissive/transparent component. This opens the door to many new applications that benefit from the clean, precise welds that laser welding provides.

Friction . Not spinning
@Extolinc

Actually, it's both. The spinning and pressure causes friction which melts the plastic for welding. Thanks for watching!

@@Extolinc bro that was a dumb comment. It's not both the friction is what fused it. If spinning yeah is needed, but if they weren't touching witch is need for friction !!! Not spinning. Come on bud you could technically run them with severe pressure and do the same thing. :) spinning not need just friction

what if Molten plastic sticks to tefflon ? Does it weld properly..
@Extolinc
@Extolinc 5 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the teflon sheet is to prevent the hot plastic from sticking. However, some materials are challenging and there is always some risk of sticking. If material sticks, it will usually still produce a good part. Too much sticking can cause build up on the teflon and then lead to bad parts.
