I like this channel. I admire your commitment to improving. Jazz Hanon is fine but I would recommend when you’re ready playing bop melodies hands together one or two octaves apart and practicing classical Hanon exercise number one hands together in all keys. This is what Phineas Newborn did to develop his fabulous technique. Good luck.
@PoetEDTVАй бұрын
Appreciate the advice. I used to practice Hanon exercises in College while studying classical piano but I haven't touched it in a while. It felt good for classical studies but I never thought it would be good for jazz studies. It's definitely worth tapping back into. I'm also going to check out more music from Phineas Newborn. Thanks for the convo. #YupYup

Thanks for the feedback. I can explore possibly doing a tutorial break down on this song. Never had the idea of doing tutorials of songs because there's so many channels that do that already, so I wanted to approach my youtube channel differently. I'll try to figure out a way to do tutorials differently then what others are already doing on here. That's a good idea. Thanks for that feedback! #YupYup

what is type a type b
@PoetEDTVАй бұрын
Good question... When I say type A & type B i am referring to the position of the notes. For example: in the key of D the 2-5-1 is Eminor7 (2) - A7 (5) - DMajor7 (1) Starting the progression on the 2 chord I use the shell notes G + D in my RH hand. "Type A" is when I have the "D" notes as the melody note while the "G" note wis a inner note. When I switch this position, now putting the "G" notes as the melody note while putting the "D" note as the inner not this is now my "Type B" position. Hope that makes sense. Feel free to ask more question if you need to. #YupYup

Nice .. question though …. If your just starting out what are some exercises to do
@PoetEDTV2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Good question. I'd suggest a exercise that's gets your fingers moving, your blood flowing, and can be transposed to all 12 keys. Doesn't have to be anything to complicated or crazy. I'd suggest try the exercise I'm doing. It's simple, goes through all 12 keys, and you can take it at any tempo. It's nothing to complicated. It's from a book called "Patterns for Improvisation". @PoetEDTV2 ай бұрын
What's up man. Props to you on that journey of coming up with chord progressions, etc. For me I started by learning songs by ear. That's what taught me chords and how to come up with progressions. I grew up playing by ear and didn't go to school to learn to read music until much later in life. So for me learning songs is what trained my ear to hear certain movements and from there I was able to start coming up with my own in due time. Hope that helps! #YupYup
