Just found your page. I’ve had homeschooling on my heart for a couple years now but I’m about to graduate nursing school and will be working nights as well. So I’m trying to figure out what the kids do while you try to sleep a little when you get off your shifts.
@thathomeschoolingnurse3 ай бұрын
@@RobiCox-fd1mj I get help from family for a few hours when I come off a night shift! Sometimes, I don’t have any help and just have to power through it. It is tough but we make it work. If you have connections with other homeschooling moms (like a co-op group), try to create a schedule where they can assist in watching your kids as well, vice versa!

I would love to hear about how you transition your days on days you go to work. Are you up from early am to 5am the next day, do you nap? How do you handle fatigue and lack of sleep?
@thathomeschoolingnurse3 ай бұрын
@@anastasiahicks9451 I do get help from my parents. On days that I go to work (my first night), I’m usually up between 7a-8a. We have a normal school day that day and I head into work around 430p (my shift is 5p-530a). 95% of the time I don’t nap before work. So yes, I’m up for over 24 hours at a time. On days where I feel the fatigue kick in, I nap for a few hours if my parents are able to drop by the house. Or I take a quick hour nap if my husband is able to cover a bit. But for the most part, naps are few and far between and I just power through.

I just discovered your channel and I love how soothing your voice is. 😃 I look forward to watching more of your videos. If you ever run out of ideas, I'd be interested in a "story time" style video sharing the path you chose to take to become an L&D(?) nurse. I think it would be helpful to those with middle/high schoolers interested in that field and those who are just curious, like me. 😅 Regarding curriculum, we started out with Kumon and Evan-Moor Workbooks for preschool, just whenever she wanted to work on them. Then TGATB and Abeka for K & 1st. Since last year, we've been using a mix of BJU Press, Math with Confidence, Sonlight and Evan-Moor.

@@thathomeschoolingnurse I have a business degree and have mostly been working in HR & Accounting. I was a SAHM for seven years and am now a WAHM. 😃 Nurses are dear to my family because we "lived" in the NICU for several months and were often at the local children's hospital for about three years. Our only child was born with EA/TEF and tracheomalacia. I really like our current mix of curricula. I thought we'd be loyal to TGATB, but the visual clutter of their new Math and the "all-in-one" style of the LA became too much for us. We're planning on going all BJU Press for everything except Math next year. We'll still be paying for the Math but I really like teaching my daughter with MWC so we'll keep that. We'll continue using Sonlight just for the readers and read-alouds. I forgot to mention that we also use Simply Charlotte Mason for art and music studies. We don't do everything every day. We homeschool year-round with a somewhat relaxed daily load.
@thathomeschoolingnurse4 ай бұрын
@@f3nw1ckfamily that’s sort of how my journey launched! My middle was on the NICU for a few days. It really opened my eyes to the type of care nurses give to patient AND their family members. Im in Arizona and no mandated assessments either. No fees. 5 required courses as well. What I’m working on now is applying for the monies available for HS’ers. I started January this year 3rd grader with Abeka. I was a PRN RN working 1-2 shifts up to 8 hours and running a home based business with clients. I like the video led aspect but they can be long. I facilitated the classes my grandson struggled with (newly diagnosed with ADHD which explains ALOT!!! But we did what we had to do to satisfy state requirement and the sacrifice part is true!!! I’m currently working 3 set days a week (8 guaranteed hours 🎉), continuing with a growing home based business, so I’m hoping to have work and business in a routine, so I can manage around for homeschooling. I’ve already purchased 4th grade curriculum from Abeka and giving it another try, but am already looking at maybe doing things differently for the 5th grade😅. Thank you for sharing!

I sleep about 5-6 hours after each night shift that way I have most of the afternoon and evening with my kids. I know some colleagues aren’t able to function on that little sleep, but for me it’s never been a problem. The field of nursing is so wide that after the education you can create a work schedule that works for you. Per diem roles is something to consider as well…
