I first visited Britain in June of 1971, at the age of eight. I seem to recall a version of Hubbly Bubbly that was somewhat similar to our U.S. Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb, or is my 53 year old memory faulty?

I was there in 1972 ----- we drove all the way from Port Elizabeth to witness this historical event on that day ---- only 13 years old at the time ---- remembered that we (brother and sister) kept on asking my father "hoe ver nog" (how far still) until we finally arrived. We slept over in a tent for two days and left EVERYTHING outside and unlocked ---- next morning EVERYTHING was still lying around ---- friendliness everywhere ---smiles and happy people all around ---- children happily playing with everyone else ---- adults meeting and greeting ---- love and compassion ----- law and order ----- what happened to all of that people ?????? Now its hate and resentment for each other ----- all due to our "government" which has destroyed even the pride amongst us

Great footage! My first-ever attendance at a GP was at Kyalami just five years later, 1976. What an amazing track it was back then. Thanks for the memories ;)

Got to love how the camera men back then always had to get a glimpse of the glamorous girls. Close ups of cars and drivers and of course a little bit of leg as well 😂

Thanks for posting this! I’m somewhere in the group of people standing on the inside of Leeukop - aged 15. My father can be spotted in some of the shots, standing alongside our VW Kombi. We are providing radio comms for the marshals.

I agree. In 1960 'Capetown' ('kaapstad') was ZS-CKD, not CKC.
@AxK3800
@AxK3800 3 жыл бұрын
@@brianburrage1131 Both actually. ZS-CKC was inititally "Kaapstad" early in 1960, but quickly was renamed "Johannesburg" while still wearing the blue nacelles. But this video DEFINITELY shows ZS-CKD which was subsequently named "Kaapstad". Easy detail to tell both "Kaapstad" apart: CKC had Afrikaans titles on port side while the CKD-"Kaapstad" (see this video) had English titles on port side.
