I like this version. Nothing wrong with a bit of rubato, even in a Toccata! (the horror!). Agree with others who say many other versions are so fast and hard, it sounds like mush or a computer-generated performance.

One of the comment was very Interesting : He plays like Armenian ! What do Except ? That Toccata is writing by Khachtorian Witch was Arminian ,and whoever is well practiced in the art of playing Piano will play that piece the way was written.

Admittedly, I have never been a huge fan of this piece, but this is such a wonderful performance of it. It has such life and color. Really beautiful. It breathes and has a pulse. This might change my opinion of the piece.

This is the best version of this song I've heard. Everyone likes to play this way too fast and it just becomes mush, especially the middle section should be played just like you did, enjoyig every note. Personally I would play the part that kinda repeats three times with less rubato, but your version is interesting too.

I don't like the rubatos. It's Toccata, supposed to be rhythmic, not a soundtrack of Walt Disney. Ok, mid-section ok, but 1st and 3rd?

Thank you, Pablo. This is the "best" interpretation I've heard. Except for the rubato sections, I don't believe Mr. Khachaturian wanted weird variations in tempo. (You honor the fact that a quarter note shouldn't keep changing its value measure to measure - and I appreciate that. Ha!)
