One year late but I love going Mercenary for myself in Fates, it's such a solid class.

Imagine Corrin as a Berserker pair up for his wife Scarlet in Birthright. Yikes she was already good in Birthright but if you do this geez she will break the game. You can do other kinds of cheese that isn’t Ryoma I also like to give Corrin Dark Mage even in Birthright because him marrying Scarlet can let her get Heartseeker making Killer Axe so much more accurate. And Corrin can combine Dark Knight with Malig Knight Skills.

I find that the only reasons to grind Lance rank are either Beast Killer in CQ or Guard Naginata in BR. Javs are useful but not phenomenal and most B rank and above weapons just aren't worth the massive debuff they give you

For whatever reason, Shrine Maiden / Monk are _not_ considered parallel classes of Troubadour.

I agree with Bleugh: with Diviner, you either get excellent magic-utility with Onmyoji, or magic damage stacking ( Basara which dips into Onmy for Tomefaire). Shrine Maiden mainly adds Rally Luck to the equation, which is less useful than Mag+2. Priestess and Great Master are cool, but it's hard to fit Renewal because Corrin has such competitive skill slots, and they're awkward classes for other characters to marry into. Unlike Shrine Maiden, unpromoted Diviner will instantly give any of Corrin's supports +5 magic and +3 speed. In that scenario, Corrin plays a support role until chapter 15, when they have Friendship to reclass into cavalier or wyvern, and catch up in levels. I'm also unsure of the logic of why Dark Mage talent is so high when a Dark Mage of either gender joins extremely early. If Cavalier is penalized for the easy access to Friendship Seals for it, Dark Mage is even more available. I guess it lets him Nosferatu tank in chapter 10? But that's still a questionable use of a Heart Seal in my book.

I get a lot of the points ferin is making about diviner here. A lot of what it does can be replicated. But not everything can be at the same time. If you go dark mage and marry another dark mage yes you pass on diviner but Corrin himself can’t get those damage stack skills. If you go monk then Corrin has no option to start training tome rank early (although it is better for pure support). Also the magic+2 slander here is unacceptable. “It saves a tonic” is one perspective but there is absolutely no rule where you can’t have both. The point of damage “stack” is the stack. It’s definitely lower than dark mage/monk but it is still always good.

The diviner hate shall not be tolerated

I think the main thing about diviner is that the magic backpack is online way way sooner than with priestess/monk. Diviner, onymoji, and maid/butler are the only classes which give both speed and magic at the same time, and unless you really value that 3 luck from maid/butler, diviner's got it beat at 3 magic and 3 speed. Monk/priestess not only stick unpromoted support into a staff locked class but are worse as magic backpacks giving 2 magic, 2 resistance, and 2 luck. Monk/priestess are certainly the better long term investments, but the immediate functionality of diviner is valuable as you can hit early speed and magic thresholds more easily and start snowballing faster.

Is there a template for this? These Fates class GBA sprites are *sexy*

i think spear fighter is a bit underrated, basara corrin is incredibly bulky on both phys and res side without flying weakness, and has good 1-2 access with tomes. Lightning tome with rend heaven/lethality/luna is also incredibly fun and makes him a great mage killer on both phases.

When I saw this video I was like huh i’m doing my first play through of fe conquest and fates in general let me see how other people think of apothecary, since it is the class I made my corrins heart seal then ended up classing into! It felt really nice to see apothecary be praised and the merchant class which i made my corrin promote into! this was a great video to watch! ^_^

You undersold the full power of the Blacksmith classline and Corrin's iconic skill Salvage Blow, unsubscriiiiiiiiiiiiibed

I think Diviner especially on female Corrin is a pretty great choice because of how it both gives Corrin a +7 damage stack around Ch22 if using Child Paralogues to dump exp, on top of giving her husband Onmyoji, which allows specific units like Niles to become stupid backpacks with +5 Mag, +6 Spe, +2 Res at S Support to hit thresholds throughout the majority of the game with their relatively early marriage. F!Corrin then specifically has easy access to Malig Knight via Camilla friendship to further improve the damage stack to +12 with Trample while maintaining tomes and gaining flight, which is nutty in a game where you get the incredible Ophelia Paralogue tomes early for Corrin to abuse. This also preserves the Rally Skill + Mag combo of Nyx!Nina except possibly earlier because an early promote Niles will likely have a lower internal level than Nina and so gets each rally faster. The only downside to this is giving up Niles offensively, however besides making Kidnapping harder I wouldn’t say this is a particularly big loss. Additionally, while far from optimal, giving a unit like Odin access to Quixotic allows him to stack his high Crit rates with likely activations of Rend Heaven, Vengeance and Astra, or gives him the damage stack while also providing him a way back into a fairly strong Tome Class after he dips into Samurai for Vantage, reducing the cost of 2 Heart Seals to 1 unless Nosferatu usage is wanted. Overall Diviner either allows Corrin to become the best magic pair up in the game for a husband who will benefit from the Onmyoji damage stack, or gives Corrin a fantastic backpack in a husband while also giving her the Onmyoji damage stack, or allows for funny skill proc stacking which is not great but very fun
