Weird that Venter would stick to a theoretically "unstoppable" hunan population growth ("...blah, blah 10 billion people..."), let alone that we would not be able to adequately feed ourselves then. Isn't that a bit too "Malthusian" for our day and age?

Is there not another fraction that should be in that equation? It seems like we're assuming that once you have intelligent life, this life will be like us in wanting to communicate with civilizations beyond its own planet, and perhaps even to explore the universe on ships. But what if most types of intelligent life are like molluscs or mosses? Or is wanting and being able to explore part of the nature of intelligence?

It's a bit funny how they, even Clarke, who used it, missed the part where we DO NOT have to be the ones to answer these questions, that we can build machines that can process data thousand of times faster than us and have them find the answers to these difficult questions and then explain them in terms that our primitive, limited brains can explain.

What has a beginning must have an end. Everything in the universe follows this rule, so must the universe itself. Before its beginning, time has no meaning. It’s this lack of meaning which gives a beginning its quality. If the universe has no end, and will last infinitely long, then again time has no meaning, especially towards the end, since you will never get there. And so since it has a beginning, there’s an in-built mechanism to bring about its end, and thus preserving the meaning and logic of time.

As has become common when referencing now very historical viewpoints, there’s an ‘unfortunate’ tendency to refer to The Universe, from a time when we had no awareness of what we now refer to under that term. We really aught to be in the habit of stating “from what we now refer to as The Milky Way.

This from the theorists who have not one clue how gravity works or what dark matter and dark energy is. When I was young, we called them 'pontificators'. (Or zealots) Oh. Let us not forget the best physicists cannot bring together general relativity with the quantum world. (But of course there was a 'big bang'.)

Brilliant good people all. Still. I must ask. If there was a "big bang"....Why? And where and how did that so-called first particle come in to being? And it accounts for every piece of matter in the known universe? (I fart in your general direction.) And how did space-time become an existant thing? Where are the boundaries? NO ONE can answer the question of what was before. Big Bang theorists won't even confront the thought. I am not religious... I still ask the questions. Sometimes the arrogance of big brains is too much. I believe the 'big bang' is a hokum theory to satisfy what they think the proof is. CBR. Chicken proves egg. BS.
@jgage2344Ай бұрын
Most of your questions are nonsense…. Boundaries?? We know the Big Bang theory is true up to a point , because we can see its effects,asking what was before is like asking what is in a black hole ….we may never know or that original particle could have been discharged from a black hole that condensed that matter or from another dimension since we know some electrons move through them ….get some real education and these questions will be seen for what they are ,,,,childish !

Carl died on December 20, 1996, in 1996 there was still hope for people like Carl the universe had no beginning. We now know that event was 13.787 ±0.020 billion years. This has been checked, proven and measured with many tools and they all agree. It is not just space that came to be 13.787 billion years ago, but time also. The universe is finite and expanding. Biblical Hebrew has a small vocabulary than English. In biblical Hebrew, there is no word for universe. Instead, the Hebrew phrase that is translated “the heavens and the earth” is used to refer to the universe-the entirety of physical reality. The phrase is used thirteen times in the Old Testament, always referring to all matter, energy, space, and time the universe. Just as the Bible stated thousands of years ago, the the universe as a beginning and thus a beginer. The Bible written thousands of years ago as NOT been rewritten like scientific books (universe had no beginning error). Yet, it got it all correct! The law of cause and effect, is a law. To deny the existence of a Creator is an error as be know the beginning had a beginning. I worked with Carl shortly at JPL in 1976 on the Viking mission to Mars. He was both very interesting and also very glueless as time.
@tgstudio8511 күн бұрын
*The universe is finite and expanding.* Not one scientific theory states that kiddo. *We now know that event was 13.787 ±0.020 billion years. This has been checked, proven and measured with many tools and they all agree. It is not just space that came to be 13.787 billion years ago, but time also.* Yes and it's start of our universe from singularity, we don't know what was or if there was something before, or even if it was before. You just added something what scientist don't claim, that is called a strawman. *Instead, the Hebrew phrase that is translated “the heavens and the earth” is used to refer to the universe* Yes because Jewish people who had written that mythology didn't knew about universe anything, they only thought that Earth is flat and under a dome. *The Bible written thousands of years ago as NOT been rewritten like scientific books (universe had no beginning error). Yet, it got it all correct!* It didn't, it got everything wrong, starting from universe expansion to formation of our solar system, or even evolution of life on Earth. *The law of cause and effect, is a law.* Yes, and it destroys notion of first creator... good point:)

hawking you will never arrive at that theory of everything because your brain is not created by God to understand it. carl sagan God is primary cause, unmoved mover, the uncaused cause. Because if God has a creator, He will not be God. God is infinite and everlasting, how does God has a creator if that is so? Romans 1:25-32. It is illogical to think that God has a creator. The Bible speaks of this in Psalm 90:1-4. 1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, "He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness." James 3:17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. @tgstudio85 - The Bible book of fairy tale? Wow what an amazing stupidity! He he he!!! All the presidents of the United States believe in the Bible. And here you are saying the Bible is a fairytale, you are really a very stupid person.

@@malicumalicious you are so malicious. That is not imaginary if you could only understand the Bible the word of God. The smartest thing to do is to revere His glorious and awesome name- the LORD your God. Maybe God will have mercy on you and heal you. And one thing more you will not encounter the word "I don't know" in the word of God because He is omniscient. My friend the coming of Jesus Christ is near, study the Bible before you pass away. Job 38:1-41 - 1Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm.
