Thank you very much. The cello was made in Paris in 1760 and was given to me two years ago.

It is not allowed to show faces of the Adult Incarcerated Citizens, so I was careful not to post any video that showed their faces. There were around 70 men in the audience. It was an unforgettable afternoon.

The piano is drowning out the cello. It's as if the instruments are competing against one another, rather than playing with attention to one another, allowing each to shine and speak in turn.

Thank you so much for uploading this! My mom probably still has this on VHS recorded from TV somewhere. I was either still an infant or a toddler when this aired, and it's been a family favorite since. This scene and performance will never cease to be both moving and heart breaking.

I love how the student has Starker's edition on the music stand, and yet he completely ignored it. Thanks God Starker was extremely tolerant. He wouldn't have got away with it with Casals. 😂

Oh if only Brahms had written a 4th piano sonata in his later age like his violin and the glorious cello sonatas.Starker can't be enjoying this immature musicmaking.

Immature? "Highly professional playing" were his first words, moron. Casual, incendiary comments like this make the KZbin comments sections the idiotic cesspool it can be, although usually reserved for things outside of heartfelt, high-level classical performance.
