Your pronunciation of “golem” is interesting, I’ve always heard it as gow·luhm, not like Gollum from The Hobbit.

What works: -Space battle (without death star) -Death of Darth Vader -Character of Emperor -Luke Skywalker What is neutral: -Music (much worse than two before films) What doesn't work: -Ewoks (Don't work as vietnam analogy at all, slapstick is even worse) -Lack of creativity (Second death star, Endor is just a forest, noone dies) -Pacing issues (especially on Endor) -Rehashiness -A lot of wasted potential (Leia, Coruscant, character of Jerjerrod) -Wasting potential of characters like Leia and Han -Original ending (teddy bears picnic which only music saves, second version) -Childishness (Ewoks, burping twice, slapstick, especially compared to ESB) -Leia being Luke's sister 6/10 at best

They were completely different movies production-wise. Thief would have been much easier to make logistically. The Keep had a fricking period German military unit in the wet Welsh hills, with dozens of extras and a main set that must have been just absolutely horrible to film. I can totally understand why Mann was in over his head. The script didn't help anything. But I still find many of the images and the soundtrack to be excellent. If you listen to the raw Tangerine Dream score (which just came out), it's clear Mann had it reworked into the classic it became. Was it a good movie? No. The actors seemed to be in different movies at times, and the plot was not easy to follow. But there are brilliant elements in it. And the learning curve he went through on this production paved the way for Last of the Mohicans among others.

i first watched this film having never heard of it before. i was alone and took a pretty decent little dose of 4ACODMT right before starting it and it blew my fucking mind, i was completely transfixed from beginning to end. didnt have the same punch sober to say the least.

In fairness I don't hate Saw IV it's the one I think is the weakest. V has Hoffman's escape though I can't hate that or a movie with Chester Bennington lol. Great episode!

The Adversary Cycle could be a knockout film series. As a child, I saw this film in the early 90s and I agree with you, terrible. In 2005 I bought the book & I couldn't put it down. I was reading it on the bed, hiding from the Wife & Kids & my Wife came into the room & saw me laying on my stomach with my feet in the air. She laughed & said you look like a little girl reading her best friend's diary. I disagree with you about the book abysmal. One of my favorites. Another one of my favorite books that I measure it by is "Aztec" by Gary Jennings. Supernatural themes.

Love him or hate him, Vin is one of the most passionate figures in Hollywood. You guys should see Strays if you haven't, it doesn't fit this podcast at all but it's a great movie

I don't know if you guys will see this but the reason Ebert hated the look of this I believe is because this film had an ugly as sin sepia filter on it for decades. Love this movie dearly tho

My take on it. As much as i appreciate the ambition from both sequels. For me, i liked reloaded more over revolutions. The action scenes are impeccable except for neo vs seraph fight (it was a lazy excuse to have another fight in the movie in my opinion). Anyways, revolutions was really boring and ridiculous. The only part that i remember liking is the Club Hel fight but other than that, nothing appealed to me. I always disliked Zion and the new characters like Niobe and the counsellers and that annoying kid, so a movie focused on them took me out of it. I will rewatch reloaded but not revolutions. The battle in revolutions was all in all terrible. I got so bored watching it.

The word "Retrospective" is waaay overused these days. This movie is still in theatres & we're looking back on it with "retrospect"? I don't think so... call it a review instead.

They don’t make actresses with this kinda of talent that are also down to earth with lots of soul anymore. Now we just have insufferable narcissistic hack queens.
