I am glad to say I was one of the happy few. I saw this movie on the day it opened in 1982 at the Showcase cinema in West Bloomfield Michigan. It was spectacular.

I don't believe you can excuse yourself by saying, "I was just following orders. I didn't have a choice." People might have a different view if they saw some of the thousands of murders carried out by Operation Phoenix, that Colby was deeply involved in. Some estimates say we killed as manyt as one million Vietnamese civilians in that war. If Colby took a "conscientious" stand, it was late in life, after he'd followed orders for many years and been Director of the CIA from 1973-76.The time to have a conscience is when you're condemning innocent civilians to death, not years later. Even if he was murdered for speaking out, Colby lived until the age of 76. I'm sure many of the victims of Operation Phoenix didn't get to live nearly that long. It's too bad we can't talk to the son of his who committed suicide. That would probably give a fuller picture of who he was.

Indeed the ‘Tears in the Rain’ moment could never be surpassed.

Quite possibly the best film in the history of sci-fi, dare I say ever. Roy made this movie come to life and you felt such deep emotion every time he was on screen. Blade Runner in the end was ultimately Roy's film. Everything happening elsewhere was just filler.

I was fortunate enough to work with Rutger. He was charm personified no airs and graces despite having a career light years beyond the rest of us. He carried the unmistakeable aura of a movie star. His manner was calm yet magnetic. Yes he had those startlingly blue eyes and a voice that made you trust and believe but he was also physically very imposing - huge hands. He kept us on our toes always thinking outside the box outside the script. He treated me with such respect as if I were his equal. I count myself extremely lucky to have met him. You are missed by many Rutger.

I related to this movie in several ways. A replicant that proves to be entirely human, with intellect and emotions experiences what we all experience. That is, a sense of it's own mortality. Except in this case it's what Pris called accelerated decrepitude. I liked the Frankenstein aspect of it too. The mad scientist creates a being that kills him. The monster ( tender human with brute strength) has a dash of too much smarts and ironically the creator can now not control what he has made. The short life of Roy Batty ends with poetic sadness and grandeur as his head falls moments after saving his opponent's life who recognizes the true humanity of the replicant.

My Vietnam vet dad said "I've seen things you wouldn't believe" way before Roy. Still, a powerful line. Dad ended with, ....the rest of my life I will often relive those things over and over again.

Rutger is an unsung super star. He should have had a bigger career. Awesome acror.
